I like "Baby," and I think there are elements to it that would put it up there with "New Shapes," but I think the song suffers from the same thing as "Beg For You": It just never really elevates at any moment. Feels too short. I think both "Baby" and "Beg For You" would gain from some sort of big, sweeping bridge, especially if she is leaning into a more mainstream sound with this album. And hard agree on the Twitter comments. Charli, log off. That shit is beneath you and not a good look to be up in a random person's mentions. I'm curious how this album will feel as a collective piece and if some of these tracks that I have found a bit lackluster in some ways will come to life a bit more with the full context of the other tracks
The new song is really good. I wish artists would stay off Twitter. It's bad for my mental health and I can only imagine how much worse it must be for public figures. People also need to understand that their favorite artists are people - it's actual humans whose art they're insulting when they choose to do that! Obviously criticism can be valid and people should feel free to express their opinions, but I do wish people would think twice before knocking something online.
Love Charli but this chorus ain't it. If this is what she says is the best song on the album...oh boy.
