I think Charli has done a really great job about being transparent about what Crash is, and that's a big ol pop album that's more mainstream leaning. She's right though, if the more mainstream stuff can catch on in a big way, it opens the door for her to sneak in the weird shit afterwards
I think it really just shows how rigid the pop industry is… like a catchy song is a catchy song. It shouldn’t have to be “expensive” or fulfill certain criteria. It’s almost like a song can only become a hit if a large amount of money was spent on its production and the label is hellbent on recouping its investment… so then it’s sent to radio to reach the widest audience, or something. I really don’t know, just speculating. Some of the best music goes unnoticed by mainstream audiences and it’s as catchy, if not catchier, than radio pop tunes and there’s really no reason for it other than marketing and label reach, and money and budgets… or someone high up at the label with a lot of influence deemed it “too much” for average listeners. And I think this is kind of the big conversation around this album, and you could say Charli, in general, as an artist.
she shouldn't have to deal with that. i have a lot to say about "stan culture" on twitter but i will hold my tongue
just now seeing the discourse, but apparently people were calling her out for promoting NFTs? like i get the criticism (personally not a fan of them), but the dynamics of stan Twitter might exacerbate that criticism.
Yeah saw that after, looks like she's playing a nft exclusive festival which is valid criticism , saying her song sucks is just rude
