I haven't heard that one, but I'll give a listen. I saw Kitten live like... 5 (?) years ago and I truly hated it
Not fully sold on the nasty cherry ep yet, but Brain Soup is great also I think Charli (the album) is making my decade list, of which she already has a few spots on haha
It will definitely figure into my decade list, not sure where yet. It’s my AOTY for this year though. Pop 2 #1 of the decade, that’s a fact.
Charli has definitely been one of my favorite people in music, this decade... I will say that. I’ve never really been that into pop, but she came onto the scene and I immediately sensed something “real” and different about her... in her music, persona... everything. Just a unique kind of energy that naturally resonated... idk.
Charli is my aoty atm. This and Pop 2 are both in my top 50 of the decade. Wouldn't have guessed that a few years ago lol.
If it were strictly on Charli’s watch, I think it would... on Atlantic’s watch however...? Unless something’s changed, I’m really not sure lol. She makes it sound like she can put out a “mixtape” whenever she wants.
I really respect her for tweeting stuff like this lately, especially given her place in the entertainment industry... I feel like she’s coming from a very sensible place, in a world that seems to be becoming increasingly LESS sensible about these (often) political sorts of affairs... Not going to go any further into it, but I just personally feel like she’s touching on something pretty important, given the state of internet-culture, the political climate, and how it all interweaves... /real talk lol
I think, yes, there is a very toxic cancel culture on the Internet. But it’s also a blanket term that encompasses legitimate accountability and you can’t make a statement/tweet something like that without undermining the good work that’s being done at least a little bit. I get the sentiment she is going for (or at least what I hope she’s going for) but you also have to be very careful disavowing that when you have a big platform. She may be touching on something important, but the problem is that she’s only “touching” it without really saying anything meaningful.
I think "cancel culture" and "accountability" are two starkly different terms, at least the way I interpret it. Cancel culture to me is the idea of "cancelling" someone based on something they have done. It has nothing to do with keeping someone accountable, has nothing to do with someone addressing their issues and working on themselves. To me, cancel culture is 100% focused on the person who does the cancelling, in a selfish "look how woke I am" way. Accountability is starkly different from this. That's my take at least
