echoing the love for Pop 2 & HIFN, but i also have major love for Crash and True Romance. i came around to Charli after seeing MS MR praise True Romance in their Amoeba What's In My Bag? video, around the same time i first heard Superlove. those 14 songs got a lot of rotation back then leading up to Sucker, so TR has a special place in my heart. Crash is immaculately written and deserved as much hype as Brat got.
hell, i think the only Charli release i haven't really vibed with is Number 1 Angel, and solely because i haven't spun it as much as the others. i do remember some really solid songs there.
Yah she’s been consistent the whole time for sure, apologies for maybe suggesting otherwise. I’ve just never really seen à zeitgeist fall in line underneath someone the way it did with her. Seems intimidating… The kind of thing that makes me curious what it does to a persons psyche tbh
I’d even argue that it’s her most important record, culturally. It’s so punk and feels like a watershed moment for lgbtqia with the features on there, and propelled SOPHIE into the stratosphere N1A was the first release I caught onto with her. It’s very good, give it another shot. Emotional & ILY2 especially
I know Pop 2 is heralded and I think more than half of the songs are fantastic, but how i'm feeling now is the only album of hers I'd even put near BRAT. (it's incredible, highly recommend.) her whole discography is worth a spin though, there are incredible songs on every album. here are some of my fave songs from the other projects that aren't singles: "Black Roses" "Red Balloon" "3AM (Pull Up)" "Backseat" "Thoughts" "Official" "7 years" "enemy" "Yuck" "Twice"
how i'm feeling now is how I first got into her, so that's my near and dear one. I'd still say brat is actually my favorite now but it's just all banger albums from her regardless. Charli is the one I'd say I feel the least positive about post Vroom Vroom era, but even that one still has fun on it.
How I'm feeling now and brat are my favorites, followed by Charli. High highs on Pop 2 for sure. Forget the name of the album before brat, but it’s my least favorite from Number 1 Angel through today, I think? Oh, and the brat remix album is probably different enough to count as a separate album? That’s also top 3 if so.
I have too much nostalgia for True Romance so it'll always be my number 1. The one two punch of Number 1 Angel and Pop2 was wild to experience in 2017.
Pop 2 is still the one for me, Backseat is the song that got me into her and it floors me every time. Charli and HIFN go back and forth for my number 2.
Crash is so good, it was a very fun diversion from the style of her other recent releases. It feels a bit underrated.
The way Crash was described, I always assumed I wouldn't like it, but i'd take it over her late 2010s stuff any day. Some really good throwback pop but with a Charli twist.
Out of all her albums, I go back to Charli the least. Pop 2 is still my favorite, and I remember losing my mind listening to it the night it released
I remember sleeping on Crash after it came out, in spite of thinking she’d been on a hot streak. Sometimes I arbitrarily drift away from an artist I love, and then maybe drift back to them, idk. Anyways, I then tried to go back to it to see if it’d be one of those albums I’d click with after the fact, when on a high with the artist again… and no, I was just ambivalent on the whole thing. Great visuals, though?
The phrasing “an original idea” always seems so specific in a silly way. Story concept? nah, less, she just had a vague idea.
I've not really investigated the stuff between Sucker and Brat but I heard Constant Repeat randomly a couple months back and that song fucking SLAPS
