Who were the first to do that? In my head it’s the 1975 but maybe that’s just because that’s a band I pay attention to.

 

I feel like people have used “era” when describing segments of pop careers as far back as MJ/Bowie, if not the Beatles

 

I feel like Madonna was the first pop star (read: not musician, just pop star) to have "eras" and market her music in terms of different "eras"
