So I listened to both and...HIFN is definitely more of what I was looking for. Ty! Going to be adding HIFN into the workout rotation. "Charli" not so much.
this is the first time I’ve heard HIFN as mid. Glad you ended up liking the album! It was a defining album of the quarantine era along with Punisher.
It has some of my favorite charli songs but it's probably the last album I go for if I'm going for a full album listen. The mids are pretty mid, and the lows are pretty low.
I don't really return to Charli front to back. It's a bit of a mixed bag to my ears these days. It would be better without the singles and a couple album tracks and as a whole I feel like it hits the same beats she hit on the mixtapes, just not as successfully. After it dropped and I cooled off on it, I was worried that hyperpop lane was close to diminishing returns but she totally proved me wrong with how i'm feeling now.
When I saw her the other day she was talking about how she didn’t know that BRAT was good, and she said something like “I knew it was good but I didn’t know it was like… pop 2 level”. Just thought it was interesting to know that’s what she thinks her best project is!
‘Rewind’ not a favorite of mine yet, but the “‘bRiNg tHE bEaT bACk” vocal line really scratches my brain
Listened to Von Dutch and it's a banger but the phrasing of Charli's vocals is really throwing me and the beat drop in the chorus isn't coming in where it's supposed to, song scratches an itch in my brain with some really cool syncopation and shit. Might be in?
I've been thinking about this more with regards to little spots on the album that stick to me and I think about it all the time is a big one "it was ice cold" and the delivery of it makes me giggle, thank you charli for letting me know the weather in Stockholm And "How sublime, what a joy oh my oh my" is such a cute and joyous way to exclaim her reaction to her friend's baby
