This album is amazing. It’s a good time but there’s a balance between sincere songs with depth and party oriented tracks and sometimes a single track will blur those lines. she still largely toys with standard pop conventions with her weird charli twist on it but she’s getting more and more distinct with what that charli music twist is she isn’t just doing a pop meets pc music thing she’s doing a charli xcx thing
Finally did an uninterrupted listen late last night… this is right up there with Pop 2 and HIFN the production on the vocals is some of the wildest in her career. B2b is an insane song I think this is her most cohesive work
I thought my top 3 would always be True Romance / Pop2 / how i'm feeling now but I can already see this dethroning the latter. Doesn't help that that album brings back weird memories from lockdown so I hardly revisit the full thing these days. Brat encapsulates so many of her past eras while, and what impresses me this many albums deep into her career, incorporating new sounds and making me see her in a different light artistically and as a person. She just gets it again and again and it's so satisfying to see her get her flowers this time
Being a 35 year old cis white straight guy, this lets me live the “bad bitch but also emotional vulnerability” fantasy I need
I distinctly remember back in 2014, when I first heard Charli and the Sucker album, and thinking, “this XCX girl is kind of like the female side of the ‘The 1975 coin’ in a way.” And now, here we are…
