Could someone fill me in about what was happening in this case? I’m out of the loop but I’ve seen mentions of it recently.

Either way, it’s crazy that this shit isn’t treated like a serious issue. People are making other people their entire personalities and it’s just become normal now. And I say other people instead of just famous people because my friend has shown me some creepy ass shit she’s seen on Threads. I’m sure we’ve peaked here though. There’s no way things get any more unhinged than they are right now. Just no way. Yeah no way.

 

She posted these two videos on TikTok calling out “fan” behavior toward her on the street when she is not actively working, so shows/events/etc, and how it’s not normal behavior. And then a bunch of people started saying she was ungrateful, not cut out for this career, and other bullshit.

I just saw. Glad she is getting some positive feedback from peers in the business. It’s also seems now that she had to spell it out that she wasn’t talking about all fans, that people are responding mostly positively to her statement.

 

Not gonna post all of these but Maren Morris and Sarah Paulson have shared too, glad to see some other queer women supporting her about this.

I respect what she’s done a lot. Few people would do that in her position. It’s definitely jarring to hear her accuse people of wanting pictures as creeps basically, but I totally get it.

I don’t know quite how that will go for her in practice, because people asking for photos etc is only going to get worse, and people aren’t respectful enough to care (or maybe even be aware) that she doesn’t want it.

The sad irony is that her making a stand will probably just cement her stardom further. I think in a different era it might not have, but in the social media age, I think it’s different.

I hope this will make her garner a healthier fanbase in the long run but I do fear this won't change much in the greater scheme of things because social media has just... idk how to say, emboldened people's worst, voyeurist tendencies? It's like people have no filter and no sense of boundaries anymore, and also like regular people have replaced papparazi and tabloids at the same time. This is bigger than her so I do hope more people start calling this out and people self-reflect or something.

I don't remember who on here said this but there was a post on another thread with someone saying "we know too much about each others" and it stuck with me. In the same way people demand constant access to everyone, which is even worse when the person on the other end of the parasocial relationship is a woman and especially one that is queer (meaning this will attract a greater amount of folks who may unload their LGBQTIA+ related trauma on them out of the blue). This really shouldn't be normal behavior.

 

I just caught up on all this and yeah it's refreshing that an artist is calling all this shit out, nothing wrong being a fan of the music or seeing an artist or band live but to stalking, finding out where family members lived and working and acting like they know the artist/band personally has gone too far and I have met people in bands in the past before and after the shows at the venues back in the day pre VIP meet and greets became a thing and they r all really nice, approachable people to talk to but they have said to me and I wouldn't be surprised if other bands and artists have thought the same thing behind closed doors.. they hate.. I know hate is a strong word but they have said this to me after I brought up the topic of fans following and doing every single date on their own tours and in their own words and they fucking hate it big time and any band u r fan of r thinking the exact same thing but will never say it out loud publicly because and these bands and acts that have spoke to me about this topic I brought up said the only reason they have not banned them for life is those people r putting money in their own pockets so but it doesn't stop them from telling me after a show they would see those same faces at the barrier and they would be like oh for fucks sake not those same people but oh well we got your money.

But end of the day, nothing wrong being a fan of the music or seeing them live but stop obsessive over them or invading into their personal lives.. if anyone does that then your not a fan at all.. period.

It's always been an issue, especially with the rise of social media, but I feel like the way people act around musicians both while they are working (on stage) or off the clock has gotten drastically worse post-Covid.

 

Everything has gotten worse post-Covid. Lol

looks like she rescheduled some dates because of the VMAs and people are rightfully and not so rightfully upset

 

The Berlin date was rescheduled when they announced the VMAs appearance but they just now cancelled the other two. I guess they thought they could make it work but they should have just done it when it was announced it originally, more of a mistake on her managements part than anything.

But yeah that really sucks for the fans with them cancelling it less than a week out.
