How are y'all gonna write off one of the more creative artists of the past 10 years over a track he dropped on Triller accompanied with a dance?
The song is not very good. Chance has also been on some dumb shit in the past few years with his comments. The loosies he dropped last year were dope. 65th and Ingleside is one of his better songs. If the album is full of empty songs like this, I'll eat my shoe
I don’t think it’s just that, none of his output since coloring book has hit the same, his presence has become increasingly corny, and this is being touted as the first single, which opens up a lot of concern. We didn’t get here overnight, this was just confirmation of the direction the ship is heading. I agree that he could surprise us based on past work, but I think it makes more sense at this point to expect less and be pleasantly surprised.
"None of his output since Coloring Book"... so a series of loosies? Of course they aren't going to hold up against Acid Rap or CB. They were fine for what they were
I’m thinking more compared to what he did between the last two albums - stuff like Tap Dance, I am very very lonely, Israel (sparring), Sunday candy (first as a single, and later the whole SoX album) - all that stuff made me increasingly more excited and confident in his new material. While 65th and the other loosies aren’t bad, they just don’t inspire the same confidence in me, that is all.
Eh, I don't think the stuff he did in between those albums is anywhere near as good as AR or CB either, though.
I’m completely baffled by some of these takes, Surf was the thing that got me interested in Chance. Sunday Candy is pop church and one of the best songs of the decade, and his feature on ULB is god-tier. CB was very good, if inconsistent, but it seems it comes down to what people want out of Chance. Still not down with Groceries though
This song stinks and I’m feeling some serious fatigue with this sort of sound in hip-hop. I’m sure the album will be fine.
Acid Rap is one of my favorite tapes/albums ever but I still think Coloring Book gets way too much hate. The religious themes do get to be a little much for my tastes but musically and performance-wise it's still really great
The gospel-inspired songs on CB are the best ones. Blessings, How Great, Finish Line/Drown. Shit makes me wish I was religious
Surf is amazing, really takes me back to a certain time and point of reference in 2015. I listened to that album all summer
Yeah, they’ve been in the studio together a lot and Chance performed at the Coachella Sunday Service. I’d be shocked if Kanye didn’t at the very least have production on this album, and probably a feature too
Groceries is trash. I LOVED Surf and CB. I assumed groceries was a throwaway one off track that wouldn't make the album. Quite terrifying that this is the lead single.
