That’s a good comparison too, reminds me a lot of views. Ed and Khaled popped up as comparisons in my mind since they are recent collaborators, feels like some influence, specially Khaled, came through.
im not sure how to word this correctly, but it really is starting to get to me that whenever people dont like a song/couple songs on an album they start claiming they are only there to make money from streams. It comes off as thinking you know better than the artist and cause you dont like something clearly no one would and the artist is just trying to trick people. Its ok to not like songs on an album / pacing of an album, but theres better ways of saying that than "clearly filler just to make money". I dont see this trend of criticism on any genre other than hip hop. No one out here claiming the national trying to maximize streams with their last album
Gaming the charts is a hip hop tradition anyway. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that either.
I can’t tell if my favorites from this all come towards the beginning or if I just lose interest towards the end to engage. I Got You and Eternal are jams but a lot of other stuff just don’t match the highs I’m used to with him
As far as I know, I don't think there's a genre outside of R & B and hip-hop that's doing it and right now, it's the trend between Migos, Chris Brown, Drake, etc. On the flip side, Kanye's 20-minute albums and something like Lil Nas X also kind of game the system because they're so short that they're maximizing listens. I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it either way. I think hip-hop and R & B are recognizing the importance of the the album format is diminishing and they're leaning towards a more playlist-driven way of taking in music. A number one is a number one and albums now are mainly marketing tools for tours anyway. But I think it's fair criticism that there's filler on a 20+ track album and in a stream driven ecosystem, that's the one of the reasons it's happening more. We saw it with rock in the '90s, where double albums had a lot of filler, but a double album counts as two sales, so you could see why they were doing it (as well as stroking an artist's ego).

No yea i agree, i really dont think there is anything wrong with it, which is why its always so frustrating to me when i see it used as the go to criticism of all modern day hip hop. I do think other genres are starting to do it though. When 1975 make a long ass album with lots of diverse songs they are praised for "creating an album that reflects the feel of a spotify playlist/modern day streaming album". I guess the point im trying to make is that with every other genre, artists are given the benefit of the doubt and are praised for "trying to make a concept album, etc" while only in hip-hop do i see "oh its only for the $$$$". i might be over thinking this though
For the Coloring Book tour he did 2 nights at Forest Hills Stadium, which holds 14,000 people. I think his hype has died down a bit since 2017, though. We'll see!
Or even thank me later, if you’re reading this, and so far gone. Maybe views or scorpion? Even that might be a stretch.
