I could get behind this, the “bangers” are where he loses me, and it’s not because they are bad, they just take me out of the album flow and wedding theme.
If it’s actually a wedding party playlist theme rather than a wedding theme than they make sense though
I laughed at that tweet tbh but also I find the joy and gratitude of this album really refreshing. I can’t explain why but it reminds me of the feeling I get from Vampire Weekend’s most recent record.
I've never listened to Chance The Rapper before this album. I don't know why I never listened before. He rules.
I don't dislike this... but I think Ingleside and Work Out would be the top two songs on here... hoping a few more listens changes my mind because that is pretty disappointing.
my pitch for an alternate tracklist modelled more on Acid Rap/Coloring Book would be 1. All Day Long 2. Do You Remember 3. Work Out 4. 5 Year Plan 5. I Might Need Security 6. Roo 7. The Big Day 8. Zanies and Fools 9. The Man Who Has Everything 10. Sun Come Down 11. Town on the Hill 12. 65th & Ingleside
Revisited coloring book yesterday, and while there are some hits and some misses, I don’t think anything on this comes close to touching Summer Friends, Juke Jam, or Same Drugs. And not a single song that would make a better single than No Problem.
i guess im in the minority, but i love this. To me its the first time one of his albums has a clear vision/concept so im finding it hard to get the aimless complaints.
I just feel like the songs are super dense but don’t have much to say, and just when he’s about to get a point across he switches it up completely for the next song. I’m sure there’s a good album buried in there, but at this point his album has more in common with a DJ Khaled or Ed Sheeran album than acid rap or coloring book.
I know it sounds like a hot take at face value, but I’m not saying it is as bad as those things, just that it is constructed in a similar way and end up feeling similar.
I'd say it's closer to a Drake album, where there's some great songs broken up by filler that they didn't want to take out because they want to maximize streams.
I really don't like this record and I was hoping it would be really good. It's kinda been downhill for me with Chance since Acid Rap, but I'm glad a lot of you seem to be enjoying it. I don't think I can listen to it as a whole ever again though.
