This was amazing. As a fan of Bones and All / Suspiria I was hesitant if Luca's strength was horror adjacent, but he made a movie about tennis somehow just as investing if not more so haha. It's somehow a great sports movie AND a great erotic thriller, and both of those elements strengthens the other. I feel like they could have tightened the end sequence up but maybe I'll feel differently next time. Don't miss this!

this absolutely whipped. there’s gonna be so many poor fools thinking it’s more sexually charged than it actually is that they’ll miss some of what’s actually thrilling about it. i can see how others might not like the frequent time jumps, but i was locked in. that score!

 

I adored MOST of the score - especially the match tracks - but I think most of the music during romantic scenes or serious scenes was not so great - one of my few complaints of the film. Some of the extra stylized shots, and weird transitions/edits bothered me as well - BUT this film rocked for the most part. Big fan.

Agreed! Especially in the sauna scene, it seemed really loud and egregious. Like, Trent, we don’t need this tense dance music in an already tense scene.

 

This is incredible. Kept me engaged the entire time, all 3 core performances were insane, and the way Luca shot the tennis matches was awesome. Definitely one I want to see again.

I loved this but oddly enough I could totally see how someone would argue those things - I just disagree.

 

I always expect the dumbest observation from him and he still manages to amaze me.

 

Taking issue with the windstorm is certainly a decision.

I thought this was okay. The amount of slow mo shots were getting up there to rival Zack Snyder. The back and forth time jumps were neat at first, but after the first few I was tired of it.

I wanted to see more Mike Faist after West Side Story and was so excited to see him here but this was like the Josh O’Connor show.
