Finally listening, just got to Ambulance Rides. Oof. It hurts so good.

And now See Me Changing?! Dear lord. Chad is just such a great songwriter.

I'm just deeply emotional that I get another record from my favorite artist. Every time he puts one out, I truly wonder if it will be the last and then a little miracle happens.

Setlist from the album release show tonight in case anyone's interested:

Chad Perrone Setlist at Haymarket Lounge at City Winery, Boston

Tidbits from the stage banter for the couple the Chad-heads on here:

    - He said "Madison" was written in two stages. The first was as he was in a friend's NYC apartment waiting for a meeting on Madison Avenue with Epic Records, who told him he was "the next Howie Day or John Mayer". The second was a year later after never having heard from them again.

    - He's 1,190 days sober.

    - "Clean" is about the toxicity of social media

    - "Ambulance Rides" is about his struggle to forgive himself for all the damage he did due to his alcoholism and the first song he's ever played for his therapist in their 10 years

    - Dennis and Steve were in his wedding, and the three of them played "All I Go Looking For" for Chad's wife

    - Rob Griffith, who produced the record, drove up from Connecticut to play drums for the gig

He was awesome last night. One of the best shows I’ve seen him do.

    Here’s the setlist:

He also said that he’s let go of most of the bitterness surrounding Averi and reached out to Matt, hoping he’ll hear back to talk about a possible reunion show next year for the 20th Anniversary of the Avalon show. Which :head explodes:

Truly never saw that in the cards.

He played more Averi material than I've ever seen him do at a solo show and the coolest part was he had Dennis Carroll come up and do Mike's harmonies and sax parts for "The Bones Underneath" on melodica.

Dang. Bummed I missed it! But my sister snagged me free Kacey musgraves tickets last night, so at least I still saw a good show haha

Y’know I’ve heard literally thousands of albums since the first time I heard Release, and then when I put the album on I’m pretty sure not a single one can touch it.

He really captured this fear of getting older and watching things pass you by on that record that just makes me ache in such a pristine and painful way. I can't think of another album that makes me feel that exact thing in that exact way. A true masterpiece. I need to listen to it tomorrow.

Yeah, Release is absolutely my favorite of his solo records. The Averi albums hold a very nostalgic, special place in my heart, though.
But really, love all of his stuff. Should really listen to his latest one from last year(?) some more.

It's the perfect mix of that sadness of "feeling so much older" and "who sold that myth to you", etc. but always balanced by that hope. "I don't claim to know what I want, but I'm narrowing it down." Ever onward, one stumbling step at a time.

The fucking crazy thing is it's probably third for me and it's that goddamn good. The list of artists with 3 as good as Wake, Release, and Drawn to Revolving Doors, like, ever is exceedingly short in my estimation.
