This album is pretty good and really fun, but it’s not hitting me like their last few have, and I’m honestly a little bit disappointed. It’s better than the first 2 albums, but behind the last 3. For me, I’d put it at: Zoo The L-Shaped Man Rohnert Park In the Spirit World Now Violence Violence Still Nothing Moves You
While I miss Ross yelling about being skullfucked by faith and being the upside down cross, this is a pretty good Devo album TBH.
Ceremony has one of the most interesting discographies to me. Each album sounds like a mix of the album that came before, and the album that comes after. Each album introduces a whole new element. Then that new sound is brought to the forefront on the next record, while again, bringing in an entirely new element to play with. Which makes the discography flow nicely when listening beginning to end. These guys are extremely underrated in my opinion.
I'm not in love with the album, only because it's not my preferred style, but mad props to this band for continuously doing something new and always evolving as musicians.
It hasn’t hit me as hard as L Shaped Man probably because it uses melody a bit differently and is a bit more art-rock, I still think it’s pretty cool though and hopefully it grows on me
It's crazy how a band that was a straight powerviolence act on their first album is now playing new wave on their sixth album. But that's life.
I guess it's ok but don't expect I'll be spinning this a lot tbh will give it another chance this week
This is probably my favorite release of the year so far. Just waiting for my dad Alex G to drop his record.
Always a fan of a band leaning into their history. I would also totally cop a "Ceremony used to be a powerviolence band" shirt.
