I was just mentioning another heater that was played that NIN happened to cover when I saw them the day after I saw this film.
Thought this was okay. Aronofsky is a solid action director and it always helps with Matthew Libatique is your cinematographer. I guess maybe I was expecting the humor to be a little bit more snappy, so it felt a little off. Agreed with the tonal whiplash, but overall had a good time. If this was made in the 2000s, it would have gone triple platinum on DVD in the dorms.
I agree, I had a great time watching it. I don’t know why people don’t like Austin Butler (I haven’t seen him in much, I think just this and Eddington) but he was good in this. Fun stuff. I wish Zoe had been a bigger part of it though. I thought she was great and her exit felt too abrupt
I only really saw this for Matt Smith but it was a really solid watch. both a lot funnier and a lot more brutal than I was expecting. Aronofsky doing Guy Ritchie is a lot more my speed than, well, him being himself lol one of the strongest "I'm happy this actor showed up" movies in a minute. loved seeing D'Pharoah very briefly and that surprise Laura Dern at the end, also did not recognise D'Onofrio until literally his last scene lmao
I will say the sound mix on this was absolutely atrocious though, dialogue was quiet enough that our cinema had the speakers cranked to the max and then everything else was like ear piercingly loud haha. first time I've ever wished I brought my concert earplugs to a movie that cat was extremely cute though
