We took my cat to the vet ER and he has been there for a few days. He was diagnosed with kidney disease. He has shown some signs of improvement and I’m trying to remain optimistic. We had a 2 hour visit with him yesterday and he looked sooo much better. After about 30 minutes he calmed down knowing we were there. I feel so bad for him being drugged and terrified away from home, but I know he’s getting the best care. Selfishly, it feels so weird and empty without him being home. He is always by my side. He greets me when I get home at the door, follows me into every room, hangs in the kitchen while I cook, the bathroom while I shower, and sleeps next to me in bed. While I know that he could continue to improve, it’s just been a difficult couple days. Sorry for the novel. I just needed vent a bit and to my give my partner a break. I miss him laying on me every night. I can't keep "home is such a lonely place without you" out of my head.
Aw man the feels. This happened to me a few years ago with my little dude and I couldn't believe how quiet the house was without him. If it makes you feel better, I've got a 19 year old cat who has been living a happy life with kidney disease for years now. The food is pricey but worth the time we've spent together.
So I didn't take down my Christmas tree until today (you can judge me, I have nothing to blame but procrastination, laziness, and a dash of depression lol). Midna didn't even give me a 5 minute break before vacuuming until she tried to eat all of the fake pine needles from the floor. Pure carnivore? More like pure idiot haha.
Just had to fight her to the ground to drop her from trying to climb in my bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. Sigh. 14 years old and still pulling this shit lol. She's my best friend, though. This little freak who makes me close my eyes to shield them when she's about to shake off her body from drooling so much when she purrs. EDIT This photo is what I woke up to after a nap. And then she promptly head butted my phone out of my hand for more rubs.
I wish my cat wasn't a total alpha with other animals because that's cute af It's the only reason I can't help my sister out by rooming with her trying to move back out here lol. She also has a female alpha 14 year old cat like mine who already barely tolerates her other cat after years of terrorizing him.
Anyways, I love my cat, but I just had to scream at her to startle and prevent her from eating my Galaxy buds after getting the zoomies and knocking my case onto the floor. Cat ownership is exhausting sometimes lol.
We have some fosters with us for the next few weeks. Meet Cake Pop and Carrot. They are not siblings, but they are already best friends.
Wanted to share that my endlessly sweet girl, CiCi, is currently undergoing radioactive iodine therapy for her hyperthyroidism. She was diagnosed in fall of 2020 and the condition had been well managed using trans-dermal Methimazole for years, but the thyroid tumors progressed so much in recent months that this became our only option and chance at long term recovery. We were so, so nervous that she wouldn't be a good candidate because hyperthyroidism can often mask some serious and common cat illnesses (kidney disease, heart disease, and cancer.) During her consultation, we received the incredible news that, despite her hyperthyroidism being extremely advanced, her organs are in fantastic condition and the only other underlying condition she might be dealing with is some very manageable IBS. Because her thyroid tumors are so large, she's having to stay with the clinic for a full week and we miss her dearly, but the doctor has been in communication every day (she's doing great!) and they are super positive about her prognosis. I just can't wait to have her back, although keeping relative distance from her at home for the next two weeks is going to be pretty awful. I just wish I could explain to her why we had to leave her!
