Love my cat so much but God her food obsession is driving me insane. 10 years of constant begging, stomping me awake, making as much noise as possible to annoy me to stand up and feed her, knocking over my end table lamp in the morning to wake me, and vomiting on the carpet from eating stuff she shouldn't be eating like pieces of plastic packaging from toilet paper, Gatorades, paper towels, etc. I have to hide everything lol She always begs for another meal two hours early, and if I walk towards the kitchen at any point, chases me into it, and always tries to steal whatever I am currently eating. It's exhausting and she's worse than my chocolate labs I had growing up when it comes to food.
Definitely sounds annoying! Could maybe try switching to a higher calorie food, might fill her up more. Or get a treat maze/puzzle thing so she has to work for it. Could also try playing with her a lot right before bed, might help her sleep longer. For chewing, our cat loved this catnip banana toy Buy Yeowww! Banana Catnip Cat Toy for USD 8.49 | MudBay
Have you tried an automatic feeder for mornings? I set ours to 5:30AM so our cats get their fix while we're still sleeping. They still meow before/after eating occasionally but at least we don't have to get up
Seconded. The automatic feeder is a sleep saver. Now when I wake up in the morning my cat is laying next to me vs standing on me.
The automatic feeder is helpful for me but my cat loves scratching at it and trying to knock it over to get my attention when she wants food.
My cat did the same and we went through many iterations to get to a feeder-contraption that worked without him getting into the food. I’ll save all the details but we have his feeder inside a wooden ikea crate with a self-made door hinged on one side and a lock on the other. There is just enough space for the food to fall onto the bowl. Not the prettiest thing but at least he can’t get into the food anymore haha.
Thanks all! I tend to only feed her wet food, but maybe dry once a day would be ok with a feeder. Would be shocked if she doesn't find a way to break into it, but worth a try to see what I can do. Ordered her some new toys too to keep her occupied
We've been using this one for the past few years and haven't had any issues. Our cat sits patiently next to it when she knows its almost time
Azul finally decided to test out this donut cave/tunnel thing we’ve had for years. She’s a convert, but prefers to nestle into the donut on top.
Have had these two bubbas for almost a year now. One loves to cuddle so much he’ll throw his body into me while walking. The other hates to be touched!
Buttercup hasn’t been doing well the last few days. She’s been lethargic, has barely touched her food (she’s the most food obsessed cat I’ve met), has lost weight to the point where I can feel her spine, and looks like she’s sad. I’ve got an appointment morning but we just had a family cat pass this fall and he started with similar symptoms and went downhill quick. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious,
Target had a deal on pet stuff, so there are currently 120 cans of Fancy Feast (seafood pate) in my kitchen.
Adorable, but how does that not break health codes? Doesn't personally bother me but that always surprises me lol
Seems its a bit of a balancing act between the risks and benefits (e.g., pest control) and there seems to be a lot of health inspectors "looking the other way" or finding workarounds as a result. Solid breakdown here if you're interested in the details LOL - NYC Health Codes and the Bodega Cat
My mom got to the hotel a day early for my sister's wedding on Saturday and there is a hotel cat that just lives there haha
