I always thought Tom Hooper was a hack but there’s too many completely misguided and tonally wack choices he makes to be as simple as that. He really does veer close to the Room-esque territory where literally every shot and choice I’m like “why did you do this”, the actors he works with are just good enough to mask how he doesn’t understand movies at all

 

Here for the Hooper hate as well. Feel free to share some of your favorite examples.
