I hope more people check this because it's really really good and weird Definitely some Have You In My Wilderness vibes
Well deserved. Sitting in my top 3 just behind The National and Big Thief on my list of favorites this year.
Been digging into her back catalog a bit now. I had heard Crab Day once before this dropped but went back to it last night and it's really amazing. Equally as weird as this but more angular imo. Mug Museum is quite good too. Does anyone listen to Drinks? Think I'm going to go for one of those records next.
Crab Day is great, I think I still like it better than the new album at this point, but that could change over time. I enjoy Drinks, but not as much as her solo material. I definitely prefer Hipo Lite to Hermits on Holidays.
Watched the Pitchfork stream and it was incredible. Really struck me that what makes this album most interesting is that even though she’s not playing post-punk, it seems to be the style that influences her sound the most. I really hear it in her vocal delivery, the guitar tone and riffs, and the drum patterns.
Mexican Summer's next Myths EP is Cate Le Bon and Bradford Cox. Out November 1. 01 “Canto!” 02 “Secretary” 03 “Companions In Misfortune” 04 “Constance” 05 “Fireman” 06 “Jericho” 07 “What Is She Wearing”
