I love how relatively close all these matches are compared to most others. There ain’t an even sort of okay song on this record.
Gutted to miss the first round. Just didn't have time to log in on Friday/Saturday. My Exit, Unfair Over the years I think the intro to My Exit, Unfair is one of my favourite parts of this album. The Soviet Lyrically one of the best songs out there. I really related to the conflicts portrayed in this song when I was a teenager ("Besides, when I look down, as if to pray... well, I was looking down her dress! Good God, please, catch for us the foxes!" - Does it get better than that?) Torches Together Very tough decision here but I think I relate to the lyrics of Torches Together more! After all, why pluck one string when you can strum the guitar? Tie Me Up! Untie Me! Interesting that Four Word Letter Pt 2 was my favourite song from this album when it first came out. Now I think the imagery and the honesty of the dialogue regarding suicidal thoughts means I've got for Tie Me Up! Untie Me! And for the record for the first round I would have gone for three of the songs that got knocked out...! I like thinking and writing about the songs so please excuse me as I throw out a few thoughts. 1) My Exit, Unfair vs. Seven Sisters 2) Carousels vs. The Soviet 3) Torches Together vs. Leaf 4) Son Of A Widow vs. Tie Me Up! Untie Me! I think Carousels and Son of a Widow are two of the most poignant songs on this album. Carousels is one of my favourites now and it's my most listened from this album in my iTunes library. I get quite emotional with both of these closing tracks. They hit me hard. Shout out to Son of a Widow too as my dad knows that song - probably the only mewithoutYou song he's super familiar with. He took me to see them once because the show finished too late to catch a train home. One of my favourite memories with him and I am so thankful that he came with me. He got excited when they started playing Son of a Widow because he knew the song. I think Leaf is one of the most underrated songs on this album too. I love the description about the carnival game "when even if you win, even then you don't win". I just remember relating to that line so much as a teenager. Leaf through to The Soviet is an underrated passage of this album. Just the overall vibe is perfect and probably what helped me fall in love with this band even more.
