My Exit, Unfair The Soviet Torches Together (not looking forward to deciding between this and January 1979 next round) Tie Me Up! Untie Me! (really tough call) I need to come back to this album more often, usually I stick with BS and later albums
The Soviet is great (everything on this album is), but I’m genuinely surprised at the lack of love for Carousels so far.
Current Totals: My Exit, Unfair - 10 Seven Sisters - 0 Carousels - 4 The Soviet - 6 Torches Together - 8 Leaf - 2 Son Of A Widow - 2 Tie Me Up! Untie Me! - 8
My favorite album ever. This is going to be like choosing a favorite child. 1) My Exit, Unfair 2) Carousels 3) Torches Together 4) Son Of A Widow
oh, i didn't realize they had already done one for it! i was just thinking about the [A->B] 15 year tour
Maybe we'll get that deluxe anniversary vinyl pressing that couldn't come together at the 10 year though!
I just looked it up and I see there was a Cleveland date in October 2014. I was doing quite a bit of traveling for work at that point so I guess that's why it wasn't on my radar :/
Just spent 40 minutes listening to these matchups and deliberating which is the better song and/or which song I like more personally. This was not easy. This whole album is incredible so here it goes... 1) Seven Sisters - I really like My Exit but I love this song more. "I threw a small stone down at the reflection of my image in the water, and it altogether disappeared. I burst as it shattered through me like a bullet through a bottle. And I'm expected to believe that any of this is real." Love the outro of this song. 2) Carousels - Tough choice here. I think the slow-burning mood of this song is what separates it stylistically from the faster groovier sections on this album. "I thought why do I look around? And I kissed the filthy ground in the first dry spot I found. I didn't have to wonder why I was laying down." The story telling aspect of this song also is a plus for me. Great track. 3) Leaf - As much as I think Torches is an important song in this band catalogue, Leaf edges it out just slightly. The verses and bridge/outro really shine here." I'll come down and touch your eyelids but if you stay up too late I'll throw you back into the cupboard with all the chipped and dirty plates, like the carnival game with the bottleneck and rubber ring where even if you win, even then you dont win." The movement of this song is infectous. 4) Tie Me Up! Untie Me! - Don't feel convinced this is the better song because Son of a Widow is an excellent closer to this iconic album but after much thought I decided Tie Me Up is the better track. Its managed to stay in setlist rotation for years because its absolutely amazing live."I was swimming through the waves for what must have been days, but could find no relief. When I started sinking down I thought for certain I would drown, until I saw you in the ocean." This hit so close to home lyrically when I first heard it. Powerful stuff.
Really tough round: 1) Seven Sisters 2) Carousels 3) Torches Together 4) Son Of A Widow Pay no attention to me Dancin with my girl
the soviet can't end this soon... god is love and love is real but the dead are dancing with the dead.
