It's definitely underrated but it's hard to claim it's one of their best amidst such a stellar back catalogue. I love the album but that's a stretch for me.
My personal opinion... This record is easily my least favorite full-length they’ve done. I don’t think it quite stacks up to the rest of their discography- especially following up the masterpiece of Brother, Sister. Having said all that, I don’t dislike any of the songs and I’ve enjoyed my time revisiting the album these past few days.
My feeling is you can not love the album stylistically but you can’t deny the brilliance of much of it. It’s next to last in their discography for me, but there are some phenomenal moments and lyrical passages on that thing.
It's All Crazy Floats around 4th-6th favourite, depending on the day. There's no mwY album I dislike or think is less than great.
Current Totals: The King Beetle On A Coconut Estate - 7 Timothy Hay - 8 Every Thought A Thought Of You - 6 Cattail Down - 9
Yeah, aside from A-B, i think any of the others (esp. the last 5) could be my favorite on any given day really.
It’s funny. I’ve always been a big fan of that song, but I didn’t think it was that popular with people and was really surprised when they played it live. It’s a top 4 song on the album, but Timothy Hay might be my favorite.
I was under the impression Timothy hay was far and away gonna win this round so I’m surprised it’s not a bloodbath tbh
That's the power of The King Beetle on the Coconut Estate, baby. Yes, this is intended to be read as the Pine Sol lady. I don't know why I'm so weird in this thread.
I have a tie to break and I'm going with Timothy Hay. The King Beetle On A Coconut Estate is a worthy opponent, but Timothy Hay is one of my favorites from this album and I just enjoy it more. Round Three Final Totals: The King Beetle On A Coconut Estate - 8 Timothy Hay - 8 (9) Every Thought A Thought Of You - 7 Cattail Down - 9 ----------------- Final Round: Timothy Hay vs. Cattail Down
This album has grown on me a lot since its initial release - I've had a good time revisiting these songs the past few days. I'm looking forward to diving into Ten Stories again. Along with It's All Crazy! it's probably the record of theirs that I tend to revisit the least.
