A lot of chatter in the new releases thread for this one so I figured I'd make a thread. Think post-hardcore in the vein of Keep You-era Pianos Become the Teeth with vocals leaning a little more Movements, La Dispute, with a healthy dose of classic emo melodramatics. Early Turnover vibes too potentially?
Yeah I checked this out based on recs in the new release thread and instantly loved it. Same happened to me last week with Sprints.
stoked they have a new album out! i got where i go when im sleeping in a rise records cd lot sale a long time ago , been a fan ever since! just started the new album \m/
oh also for people just discovering them i highly recommend this standalone release they dropped last year, it was their first batch of new music in 5 or 6 years, so it was exciting! i didn't know if they'd ever release new music. check em out!!
This is really growing on me. Love Unique Lights as an opener. Definitely my first replay album of 2024.
more like 2014 to 2016 for me. If I was listening to this with Peripheral Vision, Keep You, Harmlessness, Hyperview, Rooms of the House, etc., it'd be close to my AOTY. I'm not quite in that zone as much anymore, but can still see and appreciate that this is an execution of that genre done very well.
I was kind of out on this sound by 2014, so it's definitely earlier for me, but TWIABP is a good comparison for the dynamics and drumming. I was trying to pin the exact bands it was reminding me of — definitely the Moving Mountains EPs and Waves. There was a band called Ocean Is Theory that I was obsessed with around that time that sounded kind of like this but only had one EP. Maybe what Thrice and Manchester Orchestra were doing around that time, but with shinier production?
Manchester for sure, some of the slower power chord, bigger moments gave me that vibe. Valleyheart's Everyone I've Ever Loved felt like it had similar influence, and I got vibes of that one at points while listening to this.
I checked this out due to @duffe ‘s post on the emo thread and goddamn. This is exactly my kind of shit. It’s like Mae and MovMou had a baby. I feel like there aren’t many bands with this type of sound right now and I’m here for it
doesn't hit by me til next month but i agree! stacked line up, not as familiar with acres as the other 3 but I've only ever seen holding absence live so I'm excited!! I've had tickets for months.
Most recent listen is giving me heavier Downhaul vibes with slightly more palatable vocals. I love Downhaul, but y’all know what I mean.
