This is better now that I'm playing it at a good volume. Not sure what was going on in my brain during my first listen - the chorus of Joshua Tree drove me crazy but I'm liking it now, haha.

Edit: Far Away is even BETTER now

We'll see with time - it could very well be where I'm at right now - but I am honestly not super high on this although there is plenty of good and fun stuff on here. The opener, Far Away, Shooting Star, and Go Find Yourself are great.

 

this is prob her most idiosyncratic record, which you prob could've guessed from the singles. "surrender my heart" is fucking amazing lol

Hate to be a "the bonus tracks are the best ones" guy but

love the strings on "loneliest time" but to my brain and ears, CRJ+rufus is like peanut butter + defibrillator jelly sorry

9 songs in and I’m loving this. Still not big on Beach House, and Joshua Tree didn’t fully hit for me. But 7 tracks out of 9 so far I’m loving.

 

need to give this more time to sink in, but i dig a lot of the production choices here.

 

Initial thought is i like it more than dedicated and less than emotion. Gonna be great Fall music. Fellow Scorpio excellence.

edit: damn, i could actually see this giving emotion a run for its money. did not expect that, but the back half of this record and the bonus tracks are so good.

 

I haven’t checked the bonus tracks yet but that excites me, I have similar thoughts about the standard edition album.

 

I think that the moodier side of her music is something i need in order to appreciate all the bops. Emotion has that balance, and i think this record does as well.
