Album is excellent, just wish I could remove Beach House from it.

 

I watched the CBC interview today and it made me enjoy Beach House more (I already did). Apparently, the chorus came from a conversation she had with her mom over Facetime, talking about how it’s unfair that people play games on dating apps. To paraphrase: “I told her ‘What’s in it for me? A beach house in Malibu and hurt feelings? Actually, hold that thought’”

Song is a lot cooler in that context and is incredibly thematic to the record imo, both as a statement on how we use dating apps to fill the loneliness and how Carly spent so much time on video chats with her family during the pandemic. It’s cool that there’s that duality!

Can comfortably say I’m leaning heavily CRJ’s way so far.

She is a superstar and this album is great

i also don't get the hate for Joshua Tree. it's a fun song!

 

I think if Joshua Tree had a different chorus, i could get into the verses.

 

Beach House is great. Def an accurate commentary on online dating, a fun song, video has fun visuals, and idk I really don't get why the male vocals seem to bother so many people. It's fun live too when her band members get to sing along

 

yeah it would have been way cheesier if she just did the chorus in a deeper voice haha

 

ride the bass line and sink into the sweet goodness of the chorus

 

Go Find Yourself or Whatever makes me ache in a way the new Taylor Swift hasn’t yet.

i think this might be my aoty. i can usually tell every year which album is mine after about a week of listening to it and this one feels just as easy as an option as all aotys that came before it
