It genuinely upsets me that Sideways is barely over 2 minutes long lol. Reminds me of Fake Mona Lisa like you can add a little more Carly!

 

3rd listen done. this thing is so good

 

I've only just begun digging into the Carly Rae Jepsen category (I feel like, as a late 30-something white dude living in Brooklyn I felt particularly to self-aware listening haha). What's the general fan stance on her catalog? Is the first album the one with the big hit and not much else and the next two albums were more overall consistent and better without a global smash?

Listened to the new one today and really liked it.

 

Dedicated is below Emotion and Dedicated Side B for me simply because I don’t really like Julien haha.

 

Emotion is one of the best pop albums ever in my opinion.

 

There's some basslines doing some real heavy lifting here and I love it.

 

"beach house" to "so nice" is kind of a snooze.

 

"bad thing twice."

 

Ha, yeah that's the one I was listening to when I said that.

 

i would never normally do this but people who don't like "bends" or "western wind" get out

 

After one listen it doesn't beat Dedicated yet, Surrender My Heart is the best track, Beach House is still bad, the male vocals ruin it. The title track would also be better without Rufus.

 

i've only listened to "bends" once so maybe that one will get better on more listens. i much prefer her bangers over her slower songs though. i've listened to "western wind" a few times since it was released, and it's still only mid tier, at best. i'll get out.

even though i'm not generally a huge fan of her slower songs, "go find yourself or whatever" is great

 

the slower section after Beach House is what makes this album to me. lead with 3 huge tracks, the 2 after as a short breath, Beach House songs huge in the middle as a recognizable single, then proceed to the mid tempo landscape. hallmark of incredible pacing imo. especially with western wind in the middle of the two other songs. bad thing twice coming after it to pick things back up is the cherry on top.

 

Julian alone makes Dedicated my favorite of hers maybe

This is pretty good so far, really liked So Nice, Go Find Yourself or Whatever is a perfect song title.

 

Beach House is probably my least favourite here.

Gonna hold off on the b sides for now gotta check out the new Arctic Monkeys album. Loved this tho

 

beach house sounds a lot better in the context of the album

 

I don't think there's a bad song on here but I'm also not that huge on any of them. Just a good vibe all around, will have to dig in deeper later. The single were all hitting hard, repeated listens should help a lot.
