Felt a bit underwhelemed on my first listen during the night, "Hyacinth" was really grand and nothing came close for me - but I've just listened to it the second time on speakers now, free of the expectations anymore, and I already love it so much! Sounds amazing!
Loving this so far. A bit slower than anticipated but that just makes the heavy moments hit that much harder. 2 listens so far and I’m liking it more and more
I'm also on my fourth listen now hahah, track 9 already! That's rare, but later I should probably shift to some other releases from today.
Stunning and beautiful. On first listen Hyacinth and Colorglut stood out the most as my favorites but I enjoyed every second. Monoculture is quite a closer. Useful Machine would have fit in on Circa's A Dream About Death
It's a little slower than I was expecting, but very very good. Definitely a good "night drive" album. That being said, anyone else hearing some WEIRD mixing on the percussion on 'Nocturnalia'? Really bumming me out because I love the song otherwise, but I keep hearing the high-hat and kickdrum much louder than everything else and what should be filler parts sound instead like an off-tempo beat.
It’s not a filler part. That’s the point of the beat. It’s not “off-tempo,” it just goes against the typical beat you hear alongside it. It’s offbeat, but it adds a lot of flavor to the song
Yeah it was actually one of my favorite parts of it while listening to it on headphones at night, even before the whole album clicked a bit more. I guess @Saephon if you've been otherwise enjoying the song itself, you'll probably get used to it too. I personally like that kind of fuckery haha ;D
Had to get a few listens in. I do feel a little mislead by the singles, but while I think some different choices should’ve been made there it’s hard for me to pretend like this isn’t a pretty well balanced album dynamically, all things considered. My favorite tracks have also wound up being ones I hadn’t heard — Montana Wildhack and Harsh Light. And while I don’t really love Useful Machine at first, when that bridge kicks in it might be my favorite moment on the whole record. Well done to these guys, I’m gonna really enjoy spending time with this
Hyacinth (and honestly, Learn Your Love) should’ve been an obvious tip off, but a lot of the drumming here is a work of magic
Yeah I was talking with @Leftandleaving earlier today about the drumming on this album. Sean did some really great work throughout this entire album. Dude has such a great and creative feel for groove. Inspiring stuff
So funny I was going to post that this is probably my favourite album since keep you. I’ve connected so quickly with it.
Super annoying, my first listen this morning the track list was our of order on Spotify...not sure how that happened. I was like why is this thing so back loaded. First full listen in the right order now. Colorglut is my SOTY ATM
Adding Anthony Green to that song isn't even fair to other bands. Like geez that song didn't have to be that good.
That being said, the slower songs on here are still better than what the majority of bands in this genre are capable of making.
