Gotta side with Zac here — I like Hyacinth but looking at this tracklist I’d put almost every song above it. It’s just a really great record folks
Apparently it was said earlier in the thread when I just searched but man Useful Machine really sounds like a Circa track. Could easily see it on Violent Waves or The Amulet
Well, it's a simple chorus with the line "I don't feel like myself anymore", but well, does it fucking hit you - I loved that track as a single A LOT!
If I’m ranking tracks that one’s at the bottom for sure Semi related idk how no one involved in the making of this record ensured a smooth transition from that song into Hyacinth, haha. The little break kills me
The nature screensaver on my TV just randomly showed me a picture of 2 Caracaras. This must be a sign to listen to this album
I think this is probably a more consistent album than Summer Megalith, but as I said before I miss a little bit of the oddness and uniqueness on SM. Bring back the horns!!!!
they said they felt they sorta overloaded the last one with horns. i wouldnt expect them back for a while
As someone who made an album with horns, its so much easier to not have horns lol. The scheduling is tough, and then it sounds weird without them live, I fully support any band sticking with a tighter lineup and cutting out the extra instrumentation.
I obviously disagree, i’ve found that they lost a bit of what made them unique to me on this record tbh
All that is to say that this is still in my top 5-10 for the year, the band is great and so is this album
I like the horns in SM where they were written in, but I’m not sure if they fit the vibe of New Preoccupations. The strings are nice, though
I dig my thousand eyes. It’s the only one on the album where I really hear that 90s alt influence Evan talks so much about. Cool song. That -> hyacinth makes both songs better
Is it like that on the CD too? (If they released it on CDs at all, I know the vinyl is still scheduled for later - but I'm sure it's going to work smoothly there).
I've just found that version of SM while searching if there are CDs at all ;d has anybody checked it out and had some positive reactions? I personally loved the horns on SM! Though I don't miss them on NP at all. Not sure if it would fit the vibe.
Not sure! That did cross my mind, but I’ve got no way of knowing haha. In my experience there’s not much of a difference between mediums as far as stuff like that goes, but who knows
At least vinyl is always mastered separately for the medium, I'm sure they'll get it right on that, seeing as transitions are something you can touch upon during that stage.
Maybe they meant the gap. There’s a gap between Wild Pink’s Bigger than Christmas and The Shining but Tropical, and that’s a similar transition. I agree though and think I’d like it better without a gap
