NHA is what got me into the band and I remember being a little let down by Cody when it came out but now I’d probably consider that one my favorite. Plus, weirdly enough, in hindsight I think it was my first exposure to Phoebe so that’s something! I do think MDTKM is pretty good though too.
To stay on track, I like this, especially the song with Anthony. NHA is the absolute best Joyce Manor. Not a wasted second on the whole thing. I'd rather listen through it 2-3 times in a row than most albums once.
Joining in on the Caracara pile on. It's all I've been playing since it released and it's all I want to listen to. I loved reading back through some of the older comments in here. Seeing people refer back to Moving Mountains S/T, Illuminate by Lydia, Keep You by Pianos Become the Teeth and how those albums have hit them in similar ways to New Preoccupations. Those albums feel like a lifetime ago, but this album somehow feels like it could have been released alongside any one of them and certainly brings back warm feelings of falling in love with those albums.
Just coming back to say that I just listened to Summer Megalith and love it. Bought all their vinyl's off their bandcamp, there were only a couple of the Better EP left.
Oh! Thanks for the heads up! Just googled it, I'll check out the single once I'm left alone at work! Tony Thaxton from Motion City on drums!
Does anyone else really struggle to sing that bit in Nocturnalia when they haven’t got the song playing in the background? “You were always on the other side of bulletproof glass from all that” I honestly can’t sing it for the life of me without it playing.
Yeah, it's tight ;D but here's the thing - "you were always on the" comes in on a grace note (I think that's the english name for it, it's like just before the bar starts with its first beat) aaand only then comes the rest with "other side of bulletproof glass from all that". Or something like that - but just try counting it differently in your head ;D EDIT: just counted in my head hahah, first count to 1-2-3 and the first part fits with the grace note starting on 4, whereas the latter part fits with the 1-2-3-4 the follows ;d
That's it! "other side of bulletproof glass from all that" fits perfectly in a "traditional" refrain. This still won't help me from sounding like a confused broken record when I'm hanging out the washing though.
Seeing them tonight. hoping to see… My chemical hades Better Hyacinth Colorglut Ohio Strange Harsh light
Hyacinth Nocturnalia Monoculture Colorglut Strange Better One megalith song…unsure which one strange interactions is better live Better kills live Can’t wait for a headliner with more of the subtle songs.
I thought they would open with Better and Hyacinth back to back to let the crowds know they ain’t fuckin’ around, then close with Moncoulture to go in for the kill
Had never heard of this band but really enjoying on first listen after stumbling upon Jason's rec. Don't really want to sift through 12 pages of banter, is this just a new band or a connection to another band?
I was really big Summer Megalith but kind of forgot about this tbh. probably because the lead single is maybe my least favorite on here?
No relation to other notable bands as far as I know, just their own thing. This is their second record
