The new album has grown on me a lot since its release, but it's still a step below TFIC. Honestly, I don't think they'll ever top it if they keep going in the more expansive direction they've started to head down with this new album.
Yeah I don't think it's as lackluster as some I've seen have said but it's not dragging me in for a lot of repeat listens unfortunately.
Super upsetting :( They'd said they were writing new music a few weeks ago too! Looking forward to what comes next - TFIC & TKONM are two of my favourite records.
Apparently Bobby's new solo album is going to be full band “This is life, please give it another chance” : Why you should be paying attention to Bobby Barnett
Thanks for sharing my article my dude!! Yep, full band (at least partly?). He told people that while he was manning the merch after the last CWS show. Considering they also implied some of them would keep making music together at that show, it's possible some of CWS might be playing on the album!
Enjoying his new song a lot. I'm hoping Kara shows up on more than a couple tracks, but the liner notes don't mention her contributing. Either way, really excited after being surprisingly disappointed with King of No Man.
yeah, don't think Kara's gonna be contributing this time. But I guess we got Ian Farmer on them backing vocals, which is a joy and a half
Incredible album. I wish their follow up to it was even half as good. And I wish they still did music together. I know Bobby does his solo thing but I could never get into it like that Captain album.
listening to The Future is Cancelled is bittersweet for me it’s an incredible album but if i’m listening to it i’m most definitely not doing great. it’s the same way with Saves the Day’s Sound the Alarm/Under the Boards.
My problem with The King of No Man was that it felt like Bobby was done with the band at that point. 3 of his songs were re-worked from his solo album. Smash 2, while good, appeared to be an previously unfinished or reworked version of Me Smash, You Die. I loved Trying Year and could even get behind Don't Show Bill but it just didn't feel cohesive the way TFIK felt. Leo's songs were his best work, so it's a shame it ended when it did. I'd love to see a reunion at Fest this year or next year though. I think they've grown in popularity.
