I really thought they were going for a slower, mid tempo sound on this album, but it goes fucking hard at points
I had a meet-cute with esteemed chorus poster @sean_rugy at the CWS/Menz show tonight. I owe you that beer but I wasn't about to lose that spot! Great great show, wish I had a chance to check out this record before hand
Upon first listen, The Future is Cancelled is a much better album. The emo/post-hardcore/Brand New influence that some tracks have on this album is cool, but it just doesn't have that perfect blend of deprecating lyrics and barn-burning instrumentation that I grew to love from these guys. With that being said, I remember being disappointed with TFIC at first because it was a progression from With Joe Riley/It's a Trap so we'll see. I'm definitely not writing this album off yet though. With that being said, I agree with @cwhit - the production quality on this is bad, especially compared to TFIC.
i feel like they hit some magic on the last that would have been hard to duplicate no matter what. reminds me of (people are going to be mad) how the menz never got close to following up OTIP
In full agreement. Though, this is better as a followup to the TFIC than Rented World was to OTIP at least.
"hey everyone we're not gonna say our band name because we don't want to drown" best part of the show last night.
I think their pitched band name for the evening was Captain, We're Fine, Everything is Just Fine, Exits to the Left and Right
Yup. TFIC will probably be this bands Magnum Opus, and thats okay because TFIC is near perfect. This record is just good.
After listening to both records back to back, all I know is that this is a great band that has made two excellent but different sounding records
If you like this band and havnt listened to Bobbys solo record you are really missing out, insane amount of emotion.. I really really love it
