Though this may suffer from some of the same problems as Batman v Superman it was better at being entertaining. That's all I'm looking for when I watch these movies.

Also, this was the best incarnation of Spider-Man/Peter Parker on the big screen to date. Felt like I was a kid in the 90's watching the Spider-Man cartoon except he says bad words now.

It felt long to me in that I feel like a lot happened, but it all flew by for me.

  7. I'll add to that: Tony recruited a literal kid to go fight grown super-people and maybe die. That's messed up. Go get a Daredevil for your recruitment. But yeah, also agree with the funds thing. Sell your holo projector and go eat and pay for books and help May.

Spider-Man was specifically recruited to stay out of the fight and web up the "bad guys." He wasn't supposed to be engaging in the combat he ended up in.

I would have marked out for an iron-spider suit given Tony recruited Spidey

Recruiting Spider-Man was potentially kind of a heel move, which is in character for Tony. Peter's exchange with Cap ("he did that you're wrong, but you think you're right... and that makes you dangerous") shows that Peter didn't really understand the conflict and could have gone either if Tony want the one to reach out to him. (That's also one of my favorite moments in the movie.)

However, I think Tony didn't expect the fight to get too heavy, or even of there would be a real fight. He's also putting himself in a mentor role, which, while obviously not a selfless move, is good when you've got a kid with these abilities and no guidance in how to use them.

I also think the movie did a great job of showing Tony's reasons for the decisions he makes and I think he made the right calls.

  11. So Tony being written as dumb as shit is the argument? Not a great one IMO. And the webs weren't strong enough. And if tieing people up with a compound you already have is what you need you don't need the teenager to do it when you can build robots. It makes no real sense.

Tony agrees with the government due to the collateral damage, but doesn't think it'd be possible for Spider-Man/a kid to end up as collateral damage in this conflict?

So I enjoyed it, not as much as Winter Solider, but it definitely has very similar issues as BvS that people are glossing over. Because Marvel? Jokes? Not sure, but I'll give it credit for ultimately being better.

And while still meh on the suit, I'll add my name to those pleasantly surprised by Holland as Parker/Spidey -- he was great and I'm looking forward to his portrayal/standalone movies.

Oh, and the Marisa Tomei casting is just silly -- felt like the only purpose was for Stark to flirt with her and advance the plot.

While I enjoyed Holland as Spidey, I do think they could've handled how he played a part better. Maybe recruit him and have him training instead of just throwing him right into a fight? I found myself liking the suit more while watching the movie than I initially did when it was revealed in one of the trailers. Then again, I think you could argue he was already putting himself in danger, although with much less... experienced people than Cap for lack of a better way to put it.

I feel like Tony felt the mentality that Peter had as similar to his the whole "if I have the power and do nothing, people get hurt" or something along those lines. Which made his recruitment a little more digestible.

    Might be Spider-Man...

Loved the movie, there's a shit ton of layers and characters. Spiderman....my favorite character. Really anxious to see his solo movie

I still can't get over Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. I had never seen him in anything else and he was just fantastic.

    Fight the long defeat.

    8/10.

While the writing is far from perfect, I was impressed by how the film doesn't really feel overburdened by its sizable cast. Tom Holland should be great in Homecoming. Meeting Tony Stark in the living room was a great way to display the awkward, nervous side of Peter Parker, and Spider-Man hit the right balance of star-struck while cracking wise during the airport scene. That Black Panther movie should be good too. Looking forward to perhaps a grittier solo narrative for his character. This isn't a movie I would watch repeatedly, by any stretch, but it was adequately entertaining and hardly disappointing.

I agree with your complaints on the score, @Jason Tate. Almost every time I heard the music, it managed to stand out as generic.

Speaking to the writing, Cap's letter did little to resolve things for me, unfortunately. The movie also suffers from occasional shaky cam and some cheapening cuts; would have loved to see a few more punches land in-camera. One of these Avengers eventually needs to die to lend some gravity to the story.

They could've killed two here easily and either one would've been great. Plus the studio would save on the budget, duh.

    I do not exist.

This was a major flaw of the film really. In terms of the plot, it made very little sense to recruit both him and Ant-Man for the other team. They were basically recruited to be part of a cool cinematic fight for the film. There were more than enough characters who were part of and had a vested interest in the 'disagreement'.

I had a really great time watching this one. The most fun I've had with a comic book movie in ages.

Saw this and loved it, best Marvel movie they've made up to this point.

Spider-Man was great, though I wish he was used more.
