have you heard her new record? not really just acoustic songs, I think she expanded on her songs well.
It is undoubtedly her showing vulnerability, I agree. I still disagree with her telling men they can’t voice their opinions regardless though. It goes against her own msg and I just disagree with it. Feel free to disagree with me. Cool. I still can’t figure out why the heck she asked me that? Lol. I really think she was trying to equate my behavior to those of Nazis/White Nationalists...bizarre.
I don't get how this is still being discussed. She's not saying men can't have opinions. She's saying "hey I wrote a song that literally bluntly tells you the point and you still somehow missed it."
but yo SoCo georgia writing "this album isn't for you" is 1. not "wrong" 2. not a wrong equivalent to men telling her she's untalented, bc men are always levying this attack from a position of power (also "two wrongs don't make a right"... doesn't apply to this situation at all i don't think). your original posts where you were like "i can see what's valuable in this but it's not necessarily what i prioritize in music," that's... fine. it seems like you engaged with the music which is 100 percent the most important part and is actually not what georgia's complaining about (...i think)
The issue was you had these CIS straight Male reviewers who were talking about the album and just ignoring the lyrical content. LIKE thats the whole freakin point of the record.. and they just are passing over it.. one reviewer called it a break up record.. LIKE WTF??? this is what prompted that tweet and if you read through the thread and her twitter feed at that time its pretty obvious it wasn't made to be taken completely literally.
I did not read through her tweets and don’t follow her on Twitter. It’s definitely not just some breakup record. I can understand people being annoyed AF with that type of lazy glossed over writeup from a professional reviewer. Thank you for the context.
Julien is that one artist everyone else loves, but it's never even slightly clicked with me. I have no idea why.
1. Can we just move on? Like stop responding to this garbage 2. This album is so amazing 3. Julien Baker is god
Not to make this the Julien Baker thread, but I had a hell of a time getting into her. But it was a combination of seeing her live then listening to the new album that sold.
I couldn't get through it, just felt like a slog to me. And there are some similar artists that I really enjoy, but yeah she never really did anything for me. I know she's really highly praised on this site tho and I can understand why people like her.
Exactly the same as me. I should like her. It's similar to lots of other things I like, I find the lyrics to (in certain places) hit home with my own mental health issues, and I have heard one or two songs I enjoy, but when I try to properly listen to the full record I find it too draining and it feels like a chore. That said, I get why so many people like it, and I'm glad that it's connected with so many people.
For JB, I'm mostly attached to or moved by it when the songs correlate with my own experiences dealing with mental health issues. I think she's talented, but I'm not overly wow-ed by some of the songs themselves, just the way they cut so deeply to my core.
Look at me it was all for you and it’s about time that you knew that I’ve loved you since Iwas seventeen. The Omen maybe my fav song on this. Haven’t seen much love for it. It’s the one that I heard live acoustic months ago and kept coming back to over and over on YouTube.
This is the most distracted thread I think I’ve ever seen and I can only imagine how the band would feel reading through it lol
