So apparently this happened: Members: Submit Your Questions For Dave Cobb and Butch Walker And apparently Butch and Dave grew up together or something. Mind blown.
Also, he confirmed in a different IG post that the album is indeed called Stay Gold. EDIT: He played two new (acoustic) songs in this interview. "Wilder in the Heart" is at approx. 15:45, and "Record Store" right after.
Can't believe I didn't see this thread until now. Butch is hands down my favorite songwriter. Can't wait for Stay Gold. Going to try to refrain from listening to the live videos so I can go into this record with a clean slate (I did listen to those IG clips though, and damn they sound great).
For 12 years I had not heard this 4 minute version of "Sunny Day Real Estate" - my copy of the song ended at 30 seconds until I added the album on Apple Music right now. What. The. Fuck. 12 years? (Also I don't really like this opening the album.)
I had no idea that existed either until I came across it on YouTube a couple years ago. Blew my mind.
It's on the Apple Music version I added to my collection! Listen to Sunny Day Real Estate by Butch Walker on @AppleMusic. Letters by Butch Walker on iTunes
Craig pointed out that extended version in the AP Butch thread a few years ago when I first discovered Butch, and I've had it as the opener since. Couldn't imagine it starting any other way now.
I think this was on the version I sent you last summer, so maybe that's where it's coming from? Cool if they put it on the Apple Music version, though. I always thought it was a strong enough song to be on the record. The CD version is definitely just the intro, though.
I had no idea there was a longer version. Sounds pretty good, not sure it would've worked as an album opener though.
