Here’s the rip of this years Topanga show

    2019-11-02 - Topanga, CA - Google Drive

sound is mostly good. A couple minor cuts here and there (they’re present in the live stream, so nothing I can really do about them unfortunately.) Incredible version of 21+

the cover was just stolen from someone of Facebook, so if it’s yours, sorry, but I liked your photo

Apologies to @Craig Manning for how long it took me to get to, but motherfucker Sycamore Meadows is fantastic. As good as Letters at the top of what I’ve heard from him. By “Ships in a Bottle” I already felt like a huge asshole for not remembering to get to this sooner

If nothing else, this list exercise has been worth it for finally getting you to listen to this album that I've probably been bugging you about for the better part of a decade!

Glad you enjoyed it. My favorite has always been "Closer to the Truth and Further from the Sky," which was honestly an instrumental song in getting me into Springsteen, but "Ships" is a classic too. Some days, I wonder if it's my favorite Butch Walker album. Hard to argue with Letters though.

Hah sorry, man. I never intentionally fail to take a rec. I just have the awful combo of interested in so many things and fairly forgetful.

This thread being bumped has made me put Sycamore Meadows on for the first time in a good year or 2, what a record. So thanks you two :-)

I stand by Sycamore being his best. (But The Spade is still my favorite)

Song for song, it probably is his greatest. Letters means a little more to me, but they are both all-timers.

I did have four Butch albums on my top 50, though: The Chorus.Fm Users Definitive Albums List • Page 18 • forum.chorus.fm

I wanted to include both The Spade and Rise and Fall, but it seemed like too much of one artist.

The Spade is a blast, and is definitely a record I really love. I rank it a little lower in his discography because it doesn't have the emotional weight of his best work.

The Spade's best selling points are stylistic, but what style!

Does anyone happen to have the full Live X acoustic sets? I’m trying to find both the 1999 Marvelous 3 performance and the 2002 Butch solo performance.

I’ve got Diary from 2002, and the two M3 tracks from the Live X 5 compilation but can’t find the rest.

I do have the 2004 solo one if anyone wants that

Stripped the audio from the Fender Day In The Studio With Butch Walker video and used the finish bits of the song from throughout to build the completed version. Not 100% seamless, but pretty close

The Spade is the most fun and seems right in the wheelhouse of a bunch of "full band tearing it up in the studio" records that I know you love. I think if he's going to win you over, that's the one. Letters is my favorite; just a perfect power pop singer-songwriter record. And you might dig Sycamore Meadows, which is just full-on Petty worship.
