A glass of red in hand, volume all the way uuuppppppp. It's gonna be a great night! #staygold #albumoftheyear
I mixed myself a cocktail and played it at full volume too, to celebrate other people finally getting to hear it.
The track "Record Store" though.. I knew from @Craig Manning's review it was going to be my favorite, it's true- Stand out track!
Actually super pumped for this. Afraid of Ghosts is the only Butch album I've heard in full. I liked 'She Likes Hair Bands' and 'Be Good Until Then' but kind of forgot to dig into his catalogue. When I saw what inspired Afraid of Ghosts I picked it up since I could relate to his story (my father is alive but has terminal cancer). I liked it, didn't love it. Father's Day, whilst pretty good, didn't hit me like it seemed to others. My favs were the opener, Chrissy Hyde, and Bed on Fire. Dug all the other songs without loving them (except 'I Love You'). I listened back to a couple of his classic songs (I assume) like 'Best Thing You Never Had' and dug that one, very singer-songwriter-early-2000s-emo-ish sound. I plan to pick up the new one because I'm liking the Springsteen/Fallon vibes. The I'd like to go back to the start of his discog and work my way through. Only albums I'm not that excited to hear are Left of Self-Centred and The Spade, though when I get the chance I'll likely give both a spin.
There's so much Springsteen in this that I was singing "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" in Mexican Coke and I was trying to sing Record Store in Brian Fallon's voice. Not complaining, though. Great end of the summer album.
Definitely a lot of "Tenth Avenue" in "Mexican Coke." That's one of the first things I thought of when I heard that song.
