I mean, I love Peachtree Battle and a fair amount of that is ballad-y. Plus Going Back / Going Home and others from older records, I dunnnooo
I loved Peachtree Battle, didn't care for Afraid of Ghost, loved the first 2 songs from this, Descending didn't do much not bad but not great. Think I'm in your boat.
"Descending" is beautiful. Prolly won't return to it quite as much as some of the other songs on here only because it's pretttyyy sad, haha.
I'd say Peachtree has one ballad. Do you like Letters or the rest of Sycamore Meadows? Those are probably his most ballad-heavy. It's like The Spade meets Sycamore Meadows. I think it's considerably better than the former, and maybe even better than the latter. I could see it becoming my second favorite Butch Walker record in time. Might be his most consistent top to bottom. Both sides of the record close with super crushing ballads. He definitely pulled a four corners maneuver for this one, a la Springsteen.
Sycamore and Spade are probably my favorites, with Peachtree. Letters is cool but I'm not a diehard. Marv 3's last two albums are up there for me as well
"That dreamcatcher thing you made for me" makes me laugh out loud every time. Classic Butch. Also love the guiro and all the other percussive elements.
Yeah, that line. The "Best Thing You Never Had" reference. The verse about an ex's dad. It's all great. And man, that chorus.
