Super jealous you got to see the M3 reunion AND got Butch jamming with Jakob Dylan. That's so many of my favorite things in one place. Almost considered flying out for this show.
From my memory the setlist was this. Pretty sure this is mostly the correct order as well. - Cigarette Lighter Love Song - Radio Tokyo - Over Your Head - Every Monday - Freak of the Week I am pretty sure they played 6 songs total but I can't remember what it would have been
and ALSO, Butch played a new solo song last night that was the definition of HEAVY, definitely going to be a standout on his next album
Damn, that M3 set would have been a dream to see. Good selection of songs. So rad that they come right out w/ “CLLS” too.
It was pretty cool how they kicked it off, Butch went to the piano where you would expect him to play some solo songs, then started Cigarette and the crowd went wild, then Jayce and Slug walked out one at a time and they kicked it off
My first Butch album! And I didn't like it much at first. It took The Spade and Stay Gold to get me on the train.
You didn't like it at first?! How come? Haha, it is not! I do love that song, though (even if it's not my favorite on the album).
Stylistically it's a massive leap from what I was listening to at the time. I just knew Butch as the producer as some of my favorite pop punk albums. I didn't expect songs like Going Back/Going Home at all, haha.
I'm surprised I even like Butch, I went to all the wrong albums first. After I tried Sycamore, my next choice was I Liked It Better... which was also not the easiest to get into. But y'all kept insisting there was something special about this guy, so I kept trying! And here we are today.
Sycamore would be a good starting point for someone coming from less of a pop-punk/scene background, but yeah, I Liked It Better is definitely a "wait until you love all the other stuff to listen to this one" album. I like that album a lot, but it's definitely his weirdest and is definitely the least great. I think Michael Trent had too much of a songwriting influence on that one.
Too many great albums turning 10 this year, and all it does it make me feel old. Mostly due to the fact that I am. Syacamore still holds up; I’ve always underrated it compared to his other records, and I’m not sure why.
If anyone was wondering, this was the full Butch set before Marv3 came out 21+ Chrissie Hynde Wilder in the Heart Don't Move Out in the Open Pretty Melody Spark: Lost East Coast Girl Bed on Fire Joan Passed Your Place, Saw Your Car, Thought of You Stay Gold Ludlow Expectations Closest Thing To You I'm Gonna Find The Weight Of Her Summer of 89
