So sad I missed this, but this is exactly what I meant also. Would be better with the Black Widows. Hope Butch doesn't mind me telling him who to have in his band
It's tough for me to get to shows, so I have to settle for things like the LiveNation stream when they happen. Would have killed to be at the Spade tour, and I'd love to go to one of his stops on this tour. Unfortunately, it won't happen so I'm thankful for the internet allowing me to be a part that way. Definitely happy to have new music though. This may be my favorite album. Although, I still am unable to rank them haha
Butch is also supposed to be broadcast today at noon on WXPNs Free at Noon show. Looks like they upload them pretty quick for replay too in case you miss it
I think a lot of those guys are just busy with other things. Jake's a big producer now, and I'm not sure what Fran and Chris are doing, but I'm guessing they're working on their own stuff, musically. And Michael Trent has Shovels and Rope, obviously. I think the Black Widows was a fun stage of his career (though, not my favorite), but I'm okay with them having all gone their separate ways.
This is such a perfect end-of-summer album. I have quite a bit of driving to do in the next couple weeks, and I'm sure I'll be playing this a ton on the highway.
I've played this album so much while driving around town this summer. And I've played it so loudly. People probably think I'm an asshole.
On my 4th listen now and omg how does he do it over and over again? Fuck, this shit is good. Heading down to Portland today and this is going to be getting a LOT of plays from me.
Man, I've been trying to put these songs in order from favorite to least favorite. It's impossible. I think I have about a 5-way tie for 1st. I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night.
I think it works easier for me in tiers. If I had absolutely had to sort them, I think it'd go: Tier 1: Wilder in the Heart, Ludlow Expectations, Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night, Record Store Tier 2: East Coast Girl, Spark: Lost, Irish Exit Tier 3: Stay Gold, Descending Tier 4: Mexican Coke
My top five is Spark: Lost, Can We Just Not Talk about Last Night, Record Store, Wilder in the Heart, and Stay Gold, in some order. Can't pick a least favorite.
Any chance Butch gets his first album to chart inside the top 100? Not looking like it will be inside the top 50.
I don't know what it is, but there's something really special about Can We Just Not Talk About Last Night
Agreed. I think that might be my favorite song on here and I can't put my finger on why exactly. I think it might be one of his best choruses, but then all of the hooks on this album are terrific.
