Butch Walker's Awesomely Diverse Rock Résumé | Here's the Thing | WNYC Studios Here’s the podcast he did with Alec Baldwin. Including some live performances Descending Joan Out in the Open Closest Thing to You
never really dug into Jewel, and she isn't exactly convincing me on this song.... BUT, the song itself is pretty solid, that's a great chorus, I just kinda wish... Butch was singing lol. Great production, the horns toward the end... good stuff
Solid song, I think I like Pretty Crazy better but it's great to hear two songs that are pertty different already from this project
That little guitar lead reminds me of something and I can’t think of it. My mind thinks it sounds like something from Jacks Mannequin but I’m not sure.
Wish the spoken word/radio skit was separate from the main song. Can’t throw this on a playlist in this way.
Nah that's cool, I won't really listen to it on iTunes. Would maybe be a good idea for Butch to consider song-only versions.
While we're waiting I've been putting together a new bootleg. This one is exclusively songs Butch has performed from his home during the quarantine. I call it The Seclusion Sessions. Sound Quality is pretty good, though some spots in Out in the Open are a little spotty due to the web cast nature. I gave it a nice kinda cheesy cover, but it works. This folder will be updated if he does anymore smaller performances (if there was a long one I'd just do something separate.) EDIT: Hmmm, having trouble getting the link to show right... hold please Tried pasting is like 6 times, nothing seems to fix it. You can grab it from the other place I posted it in the meantime Updated Bootleg Links If a mod or someone knows how to fix the link here, feel free to make it work and remove this second one
The more time I spend with this album, the less I like it. There are moments of brilliance, but it's hard to want to spend time with this character. There are also a few songs that I legitimately think are bad ("Everything White" is a complete failure) which I don't know if I've ever said about a Butch song before. The best part of the album is the actual love story bit at the end, but it's only three songs.
It's still a good record, but he nails the MAGA nut perspective so well that you just fucking loathe the protagonist for the first half of the album. Which is kind of a bummer, because musically, the songs in the first half are really a lot of fun.
