I go back to it once a month or so, to see if it'll click more. There are definitely things I love about it (I've really come around on "Pretty Crazy" since dropping it on my summer playlist, for instance), but it's will absolutely go down as my least played Butch Walker album. I think I even listened to the 1969 record more when that came out, and I only ever liked about 50 percent of that.
Yeah, down to the same first concert I believe (that million degree one in St Andrews Hall) I still play it fairly regularly. Mostly I still feel the same. Musically one of my favorite albums of his, lyrically I think about half of it is a mess. But the other half I have no issues with. So there’s a lot I like, I just wish Flyover/6ft/Everything White had been a little more subtle with the lyrics
Yes! I wrote about that one a few years ago, for a different site. Not sure I ever shared it with you: In the Heat of the Night with Butch Walker, August 2006 - Behind the Setlist
Finally giving Butch Walker's discography a listen due to the return of the Butch Walker Week feature.
That was a great read. Brought back a lot of memories. The AC in my car died on the way to the theater and we had 5 bodies crammed in on top of each other. Boy was that miserable
Oh man, we at least still had AC in the car! It was so fucking hot in that venue, my god. We were seriously just drenching ourselves in cold water from the bathroom faucet downstairs because we were already soaked through and through from sweating in the venue.
Ugh, we spent most of the Boys Like Girls set downstairs where there was AC. To get a brief respite. I swore I would never go to St Andrews Hall again Then, I don’t know, 4 or 5 years ago Collective Soul was playing there in like November so I decided to risk it. Bad choice, it was still a sweat shop. This time I’m probably never going there again. Probably
Good news: they have AC now! I saw Butch there at the end of summer 2016 (I think) and it was definitely much more bearable. As Fast As and Boys Like Girls both killed it that night. I didn't miss a minute of the music; was just thankful for the set breaks!
Looks like the livestream is coming out as a live album https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LNLCHN6/?tag=absolutepunk-20
I am so incredibly psyched for this record. The Wallflowers were my first favorite band, so having Butch produce a record with Jakob (first one in nine years, no less) is super exciting.
Yeah I'm really into this, I know they've been friends a while too so I expect positive fun vibes too, sounds like a lot of Butch backup vocals too
really loved that. don’t super love that it seems like with the last two albums “the wallflowers” has just become jakob with electric guitar instead of the actual band it was the classic run of albums but oh well
Not sure if he really nailed the FOW sound or if it's just because it's one of their songs but goddamn that made me sad that we'll never hear any more of it.
