Going tonight. If I yell "Sugarbuzz" loud enough you think he'll play it?

You gotta put it in the bucket at merch. That's how he picks requests.

Ah thanks for the tip. As an aside, I wonder how many ReadySexGo stans there are out there or if I'm one of the few.

I'm literally listening to it right now.

"Get Over" is such a mega-song. Huge riffs and hooks.

Him writing this record as a fuck-you to the label just makes me laugh because every song is SO massive and catchy.

I actually did yell it last night, just by reflex! I genuinely do think if he pulls it, though, he'd play it. He says it's requests and not demands, but seems to be cool with trying anything and turning to the crowd for help if needed.

Were there a lot of people putting requests in? I'll secretly be bummed if he pulls something like "Joan" at my show. I love that song, but he played it so consistently for years and years. I hope some old-schoolers stack the deck with cool shit.

It's hard to tell, since it's a bucket at the merch stand before the show. I, personally, totally forgot to do it and I'm mad about that haha. I would have put in "Take Tomorrow (One Day at a Time)."

I’d rank that one pretty high. But based on the chatter I’ve seen in a Facebook group the last couple days, it not being streaming is hurting people knowledge of its existence

Didn't even realize it wasn't streaming. Very odd given it was on Elektra in 2000.

Yeah. We’ve arrived in a world where Math and Other Problems is easier to hear. Didn’t see that one coming

Some of the lyrics on RSG have aged very badly, but it's definitely a very good album with some of his greatest songs.

This is how I'd be feeling. Like, "Don't Move" and "Closer to the Truth" are both probably top five Butch songs for me, but I've seen him play both of them at least half a dozen times.

If I were going to this tour (couldn't swing the date, unfortunately) I'd request "Bullet Belt," a massive banger that he's played maybe like three times ever.

Watching the video for You’re So Yesterday you can see him kinda cringe and everyone laugh at “Cool as hell like e-mail, but still timeless like a letter”. Though RSG has far worse

RSG is probably the album of his that has sunk the most in my estimation over the years. Mid-2000s, that album was absolutely one of my favorites. I struggle with some of those lyrics going back to it, though. "Cigarette Lighter Love Song" really holds up, though.

What lyrics on RSG are the most problematic?

He seems like a good sport about all this stuff, so I wonder what he wouldn't play? Obviously Southgang.

Butch playing "Cigarette Lighter Love Song" alone at a piano in 2008 is basically what made me a fan for keeps, and hearing him do it again in a dark venue in the middle of the floor a decade later surrounded by the audience is what confirmed I made the right decision.

Off the top of my head, there's a line about "falling off the short bus and landing on your head" on "Little Head," there's some hamfisted stuff about homosexuality on "Grant Park," and "Better Off Alone" has a line about a girl who is "the biggest ho around." The latter is the song that rubs me the wrong way the most, I think. Feels more in line with the vindictive pop-punk breakup songs of the early 2000s than Butch's stuff ever came across otherwise. And then "Beautiful" definitely has its heart in the right place, but is not a song that would ever get written today.

Oh, totally. I can tell you for sure that he would never play "My Way" or "Paid to Get Excited." Those are the ones I know he's kind of disowned.

First time I saw it, he started solo at the piano, played the first verse and chorus, then they blacked out the stage and he sang the next verse a cappella. And then the whole band roared back in on the chorus and the stage lights exploded. So exciting. And then they did an interpolation of "Don't Look Back in Anger" at the end, which made it even more awesome.

  23. I know he dislikes "My Way," but never heard anything about "Paid to Get Excited." Do you know what the deal is with that one?

He did some residencies back in 2009/2010 where he played albums in full. Rise & Fall was one of the albums that got the treatment. I didn't go to that show because it was 21+ and I wasn't 21 yet! But my brother went and I think Butch said something about regretting that song. Not sure if he still played it, or if he just skipped it, but he's definitely not a fan of it.

most of those he’d probably toss. But he might be open to this one
