I've never given Train a fair shake, but have always been curious about their early output. From an outsider's perspective, they seem like they might have a similar career trajectory to Maroon 5. A couple legitimately good early records that then descend into mainstream-pandering drivel. That's based on almost no evidence though, just the handful of singles I've heard over the years.

Now that they have the Butch co-sign, I feel compelled to educate myself more on their music.

 

Train is much more self-aware than a band like Maroon 5. Plus Pat is genuinely very funny.

I like the first three records best, but the two Butch produced (California 37 and Bulletproof Picasso) are mostly pretty fun and definitely have some good songs. I'm definitely intrigued to see what they make with him actually in the band.
