Except expressing love never [and shouldn't] hurt anybody. The opinion is perfectly fine but it's pretty much being a killjoy for people who're excited about the album. Especially when you're the owner of the site so he may have more of a respected influence on people.
It's hard to overstate how big they were during their first two albums in the 00s. They basically did Beatles numbers in the UK.
Seems to me people are liking this album just fine regardless of Jason's hate for it so I don't know about all that
Most of what Jason said can basically be summed up as "I hate this", so I disagree that his comments were more constructive than people that just say "I love this". I just thought the way in which he expressed his dislike of this album was unnecessary, as many others in this thread have said. If you enjoy that kind of discourse, then that's great. I don't get much from it though tbh. I would've actually preferred him to just say "I hate this", it wouldn't have been unpleasant at all and I think it would've generated more discussion as people would've asked him why.
i mean in there he absolutely said more than "i hate this," he said its a worse version of all the bands doing the 80s sound in recent years, "its like the disco band who came along in 1993," etc. he absolutely gave some reasons he just sandwiched it between some sarcasm and cheekiness. but people read what they wanna read i guess. so i think his posts are at least AS worthwhile if not more so than people just saying "i like this," which do less to generate discussion
Well it may shutdown their desire to express their enjoyment over fears of potential embarrassment. Either way it created an awkward atmosphere as pointed out by multiple people. Plus it's disrespectful to the artists. Charlie had a breakdown in the original run over people's negative perceptions of him.
I guess that's kind of my point. Why will people bother to properly engage with his posts if it appears like he's just taking the piss?
people came out of the woodwork to express their enjoyment of it after his posts so again not seeing it.
people dont have to engage his posts at all if they dont want to. thatd be better than 10 people moaning about his posts anyway.
maybe jason's comments on the album were over the top but what's even more over the top, to me, is that some of yall are taking this personally and choosing to let this bother you. he shit on the album, he didn't shit on yall for liking the album.
this thread is so disappointing and needlessly hostile. it shouldnt be up for debate that saying something like "this is worse than donald trump being elected" is pretty crass and unnecessary when his election has affected so many of us minorities (remember, i lost my job indirectly because of Trump a couple days ago). I dont think Jason meant it in a mean spirited way, hyperbole is fine and can be funny. Disliking an album is fine. Sharing your opinion on that is fine. But a lines been crossed and I'm sad to see this thread go down the way it has.
It can be up for debate if people don't think it's a big deal. I'm also queer and am affected by trump but it didn't bother me. It's fine if we disagree but don't act like I'm being hostile at all because I'm not im being extremely calm explaining why I think this is being blown way out of proportion.
im not referring to you being hostile my friend. it was that other guy that said we were all too sensitive or w/e. ill just leave this thread no good can come of it lol
It's more about the direction of this forum in general though. I remember on AP.net a few years ago, I posted an unpopular opinion in the Drake thread, which led to my profile picture being posted multiple times by some asshole, and then my appearance was judged by several users. I was called ugly, someone threatened to bury me, etc. I'm not exactly the most confident person in the world, and yes, it bothered me. If this forum is just gonna gradually head back towards that kind of environment then I'm done
That is a CLEAR difference than what has happened in this thread. I see zero parallels between legitimate harassment and Jason saying he doesn't like an album
Yeah, I'm not saying they're the same thing. I'm saying it's disappointing to see the owner of this website post comments like "this is worse than Trump winning the election", when he could've easily expressed the same sentiment without possibly offending people. It makes me feel like this forum is gradually creeping back to being a hostile place like AP.net was much of the time.
I don't see anything hostile about that. Insensitive? Sure you could argue that. Hostile? I don't think so
It's a step in the wrong direction. I guess that's all I'm saying. I've posted way too much about this now so I'm gonna shut up.
I guess my stance is that sure, we can argue over if the joke was a big deal or not, but that's obviously not going to get anyone anywhere. I think everyone knew it was a hyperbolic joke, but for some that fact didn't lessen it's impact. No one cares if Jason hates this album (I also think it's horrible), they just took issue with the Trump part. Like is it so important to be able to make that joke that it doesn't matter if people are offended by it? It's whatever though.
You're right. I was more referencing the few who were talking when this whole thing was brought up. I for one don't care if anyone shits on anything.
