Dive straight into his EP When We Were Lions, and his two solo records, Young Pilgrim and Long Road Home. The two full-lengths in particular are fantastic if you appreciate acoustic/folk singer-songwriter stuff. He's also got a compilation solo album called Little Hands but that's not essential. It's basically songs from the two aforementioned solo albums re-recorded and a little more stripped back. Plus he's got an EP with his brothers under the moniker Once Upon A Dead Man. That's a bit more electronic/synth inspired and is arguably the least memorable thing he's ever been involved in musically. Worth a listen if you're a diehard Charlie fan though.
When did the album get pushed back to Nov 25? Did I miss that announcement or was that sneaked past us?
Yeah, that happened about three weeks ago. We're getting the studio version of "One Of A Kind" within the next 24 hours though.
Might just be because I haven't been watching TV while I'm at uni, but I haven't seen a single advert for when this album is actually coming out.
Just went and listened to the solo demo for One of a Kind and I hope the Busted version is as close as possible to that one honestly, just with Charlie added. I really like that recording of the song, I love how James sings on it. Hope the actual version isn't too polished.
Very happy with the studio version of One of a Kind. Grown to really love that song and I wasn't much of a fan at all when they first played it live.
I just google this shit the day before. Theyre always out early in other countries so they end up online. I wouldn't be upset if this got put up for sale on some online site tomorrow. I think that happened with Long Road Home.
Meh, honestly not feeling it. Watching the live videos it was always my least favourite, and I always worried that James wouldn't be able to handle the vocal or make it interesting enough. Unfortunately, he just sounds like he's singing out of his nose the entire time. Guarantee if you switched Matt into the role, I'd love the song a lot more. As it is, it's just kind of meh.
I love how James sings here, I'd definitely like it less if Matt was singing. I think the one part Matt has at the end feels a bit out of place. It's definitely my second favourite song so far.
I do hope there's some more Matt centric tracks on the album though, his stuff on the McBusted album was great and so far he's definitely had the least parts.
Was also my least favourite of the new tracks but studio version is better than the demo/live version (unlike 'Easy'). But yeah, definitely need a more Matt-driven track at some point. He sounded good but out of place for OWYO. Would also be nice if they each had bonus solo songs again (ie, Can't Break Thru, Why, Better Than This).
I like the new song, but its probably my least favourite of the songs they've released from the album so far.
Just listened (never heard the live version) I like Charlie's chorus and the new wave synth. Prob placing it 3rd in front of coming home for 4 songs I've heard so far
Yep, Matt's a good singer and brings a lot of personality, and definitely was the least prominent during Busted's original run. For example, looking at the "big singles" (ie. top 3) they released, Charlie had the opening verse in 4 (What I Go To School For, Who's David, You Said No, 3AM), James also had 4 (Crashed The Wedding, Sleeping With The Light On, Air Hostess and Thunderbirds) - Matt doesn't have any, apart from them all sharing the verses on Year 3000. I'm really happy with the One Of A Kind studio version, pretty much exactly like the demo but with punchier drums and synths. One thing is, they only have the vocal mix sounding balanced on the last chorus - I guess that keeps things different?
I hope this means we'll start getting some reviews or something. I want to know more about this album. I wish this was out right now.
It's great that they're already up for recording Album 4 early next year. I just hope the album doesn't commercially flop - like the OWYO single or the McBusted album
