A Present for Everyone is maybe my second most listened to album ever so it's probably impossible for another Busted album to surpass that one for me.
I’m unclear exactly how Apple Music’s algorithm for this works but I know it’s time-based (possibly 1 week?). So all that means is it’s out streamed Year 3000 recently, not overall
Half Way There has a combo of some of their best songs (Radio, Nostalgia) and worst songs (Shipwrecked in Atlantis, Race to Mars). Night Drive was great because it ditched the cheesy goofy songs for the most part, but I don't think it ever hit the highs of Radio, which could really just be a SUPER good Charlie solo song.
Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of those either anymore as they were definitely geared towards a younger audience. Having stuff like that on the new album just feels gimmicky and nostalgia-bating. I'm sure there are fans who still love the cheesiness, though!
Yeah that’s fair, I think that album overall was that, on purpose after Night Drive, I just happen to think most of the songs are great haha.
I think "New York", "Those Days Are Gone" and "Night Driver" are all better than either of those. I think "It Happens" is the best song on Half Way There and one of the best they've ever done. The closers on both of the new albums are the best songs they've done since returning imo.
Race to Mars is the worst song on Half Way There but it's still not bad. Shipwrecked in Atlantis actually works for me, it's just really fun.
A couple of things: at what point did Busted decide they were an all out pop-punk band? They were obviously influenced by Blink but they were more of a scruffy power pop band to me. It seems subtly revisionist to pretend they were Blink with boyband marketing. Secondly, the production on these 2.0 versions is a hot mess. Vocals are horrible, especially. I get that the early Busted singles have quite a dated late 90s/early 00s pop production but at least the vocals were generally left pretty dry.
First part: I think they wanted to be more pop punk then they were allowed to be back then. Second part: Agreed.
They've always been a pop band. I think they wanted to go more into the pop punk sound with Half Way There but even then they're still leaning heavily into the pop element. I still love the production on their early shit, sounds great. I agree these re-recordings sound pretty bad.
The previous 2 albums are by far my favorite stuff they’ve ever done. The run of MIA-Radio-Nostalgia-It Happens is stellar, and I love most of Night Driver as well (Without It, I Will Break Your Heart, and Easy are probably my favorites)
Charlie's producing it? The snare sounds obnoxious in the mix. It's like a YouTube mix of someone doing a drum cover to it.
this album is so weird and i'm so excited. i can't believe there's a whole separate version without guests at all
