Probably a good way of looking at it for me too, this is the best version of the song, but (like a few songs off the debut) the song lacks a bit of maturity/finesse in the writing.
I love the original and I think this version loses the magic. I also just don't like the Simple Plan guys voice.
I've heard rumours about potential collabs but anyone have any idea when we might get a full tracklist?
I know eddy thrower has been touring with them for a fair bit now, does he play drums on the albums too now?
I like that this is a very different take on the song, and I think the chorus works well, not a huge fan of the verses.
another miss for me. Just don't think I'm going to care about this album. I'd rather just hear Busted than the guests and musically it sounds more like generic pop punk than Busted usually does. Not a big deal to me based on the nature of the project really but still.
I agree it does sound like generic pop-punk. I had more hopes considering how much I loved Neck Deep's December rock version with Mark Hoppus. I wonder if Charlie is doing the production on the album? They sound similarly mixed to his Patreon content. Nonetheless, I'm just treating the album as a celebration of Busted. Charlie always wanted the songs to have more prominent instruments, so it's nice if these reworked versions finally provide the itch Charlie needs to be truly satisfied with the band. It would be great if this celebratory album gives the band more respect in the scene too. They shouldn't be limited to secret sets at Slam Dunk festival but on the main stage. All these other guests (Simple Plan, Neck Deep, All Time Low) are prominent players in the scene (McFly deserve better too).
Saw a few articles regarding Matt’s addiction this morning on Apple News, I had no idea he was heavily addicted to cocaine after their first reunion. Glad he managed to overcome it.
Have you heard his solo record? He was in and out of rehab throughout the whole creative process. Really personal - a few gems on there. Fuck me. Seventeen years ago. I’m old.
Looool I remember downloading the leak. Luxury is prob a top 10 Charlie/Matt/James song for me in general. Me and Your Mother is perfect too
Busted has just announced that their next single is "MMMBOP 2.0" (a cover) featuring Hanson. Out this Friday! Didn't know the album could feature covers of other bands/songs so that could make things more interesting! They are going on tour with Hanson so this could just be the one-off cover though.
New single is out and is not great. I gotta say this project feels a little heartless. And I loved the last album.
While "great" may be too much, I don't think there's anything wrong with a pop-punk version of Mmmbop with Charlie Simpson in it.
Totally get it. This was never going to be a song I listened to on a nice pair of headphones anyway, so I'm not super crushed by poor production. Will probably only listen through some mediocre speaker on a boat while everyone else is drunk anyway, and this is good enough for that.
Can you imagine being a musician and that being your goal? "I wanna record a song that sounds good on shitty speakers while being drunk on a boat." "Nailed it."
If you replace shitty speakers with shitty Bluetooth earbuds I think this is describing a lot of big artists
Absolutely not. But I'm not the one recording it and I'm going to enjoy it for what it is - a nostalgic 2000's band covering a nostalgic 90's band's biggest song. Let's not act like a Hanson/Busted collab is meant to be anything more than a cash grab at this point.
on first listen with all of these songs there's always a thing or two that bugs me. something like a vocal melody being off/how they sing the first "wedding" in the chorus vs. the original/the 'wedding' not being harmonized at the very end, etc. but then I kinda get used to it and not care cuz i can't believe this project is even existing and i'm just extremely happy????
Sorry, I think the new song once again sounds terrible. So much worse than the original, which is s great song. Luckily their last album didn’t sound like this.
where do i start? i only heard the re-releases with neck deep and simple plan, they were alright, would like to hear more since i missed them back in the day, give me an album please and thanks!
There really isn’t that much, but maybe just listen to the bit singles of the first album (What I Go To School For and Year 3000), the full second album, and then the fourth album. Skip the third album completely.
