Bumblebee (Travis Knight, December 21,2018) Movie

Actually looking forward to this and the trailer along with other factors make it look promising. I loved Travis Knight's first film Kubo and the Two Strings, it has a much smaller budget than the other Transformer films which hopefully means less mind numbing action and it is set in a decade I love to see in film.

 

Hailee Steinfeld rules. Dig the ET/Iron Giant formula for this. 80s aesthetic is perfect for Transformers. John Cena is fun. And, Starscream classic look made me smile way more than I would've thought a Transformers thing could.

I didn't see Kubo in part due to the whitewashing, which still matters in animation (wish I didn't feel like I have to say that). Glad to see what was seemingly good about that movie can be applied here, though. Hopefully having a screenplay written by a woman bodes well for how Hailee's character is written.

Anyways, yeah, looking forward to a Transformers film is a fun change of pace.

that was charming. I like taking the minimalist approach a lot more. Having fewer bots should definitely help the product.

 

Someone said this looks like "The Shape Of Metal" on Twitter and I lost it.

 

Looks better than any Transformers movie at least.

I was about to come in here and make a Shape of Steel joke. Always someone faster out there.

 

Okay I had zero expectations for this. Transformers and T2 (Get @me, it's a guilty pleasure) hold a special place in my heart, but the others.....are awful, and this looks surprisingly very good. Im excited.

 

Travis Knight seems like a cool director and the trailer looks good, so this might be cool. I looked up the screenwriter and she's only done two other movies before this and apparently they were both shit, so that lowered my expectations slightly. But we shall see.

 

Rooting for this to be good. The trailers have been solid.
