"...various checks and make sure people look actually like real users of our community." Great. So which is it: '15 posts and 3 days active'? Or '15 posts or 3 days active'? I'm guessing the former? Or is it a case-by-case basis?
Sure. Yeah. This is fun. I just love interacting with moderators who tell me there are two sets of criteria to meet to be able to actually use the full functionality of the board, and even if I meet one set it probably doesn't apply because...reasons. And other moderators that taunt a user that tries to raise a legitimate concern in a polite fashion. Classy.
I don’t want to speak for Jason but idk if anyone has ever had your complaints before. It’s not a big deal! Don’t take it so seriously! Just Keep Posting!
As I asked up thread...What are the rules? Are the rules '15 posts AND 3 days active' or are the rules '15 posts OR 3 days active'? Or is a case-by-case basis? It's rather hard, as a user myself, to be OK with the rules when they're not clearly defined and thus potentially not equally applied. And I know, you're not a Mod so you don' have the answer to my question. But to jump in and say 'Oh, the rules are rules and everyone is fine with it' when the Mods themselves aren't clear (either purposefully or because they don't know either) about the rules doesn't a happy user make.
So, perhaps, and this is just a suggestion since apparently what I encountered by not being able to send a PM wasn't a bug: Define the rules clearly. Write them down some place clearly. Help a new user out so that they know when they can't send a PM the 'You don't have access to this page' error received when trying to do so isn't because there is a bug, but rather because they need to meet a requirement to be able to send a PM. And then provide a link to the clearly defined rule. Or just keep doing what you're doing: Not defining the rules clearly. Not writing them down clearly. And not providing them to a new user when they try to do something they don't yet have the ability to do. It makes for a great user experience and really helps a new user feel part of the community! /s
The funny thing, Josh? That really isn't all that funny? I made a post in good faith about what appeared to be a bug. Then I got a reply from a Mod that wasn't all that helpful in telling me what requirement I had not met. Followed by another Mod taunting me to make it to 15 posts. To be met by a 'helpful' user telling me I should just be happy with the status quo 'cause everyone else is'. Followed by me making a good faith suggestion in the 'Help & Feedback' portion of the board about some changes that could improve the experience for a new user. To be met with you taunting me again. And you won't see it. You're so convinced that I'm being snarky, and 'not relaxed' that you can't see I've been trying to report a bug, ask clarifying questions to better understand the rules when I'm told what I experienced wasn't a bug, and making suggestions that would improve the community for a (new) user. Seriously. This isn't a 15th post just to get to 15. I'm actually trying to use this forum for it's intended purpose - reporting bugs and offering Help & Feedback. And you lot are are too busy sticking your finger in when you should be pulling it out to be helpful.
So I now have 16 posts and have still been a member since December 2024, and I'm still getting the same error message when trying to send a PM. Can we consider this a bug yet?
You're the admin here so I assume you can see my activity on the board, regardless of my privacy settings. If that's not a correct assumption, I've followed you so you can do so. And in doing so you can see I've been nothing but a rule-following member of the community. The "when" of my asking about PM'ing was as soon as it was relevant to my participation in the community; again it's trivial for you to verify that as above. My "general attitude"? I asked for help in the correct way and format requested, asked for clarification on responses in a detailed and polite manner, and in return I've received nothing but derision from most people that have responded. And it's my "general attitude" that's suspect?
