Great album, and deserving in its own right. And worth noting that I'm pretty sure he's the first PoC to win since Herbie Hancock in '08 and the first Latino since Santana in '00.

Yeah, I thought 24k was not deserving of the AOTY award since other albums were better and more “important”, but saying that he stole it from black artists is ridiculous. Why do people need to do this, its like people can’t understand the nuance of it or take the time to try to match up the artists respect for the history
Someone called Bruno mars a karaoke artist but that same criticism could be applied to awaken my love lol
Well no shit he started out as a child Elvis impersonator And “oh wow Bruno makes really fun music... his music is by default less than a true artist’s music” smh
this was meshell ndegeocello who as far as i'm concerned has the right to say whatever she wants about bruno mars
i mean what she meant is that his work is pastiche. (donald glover's music also being pastiche seems kinda beside the point?) she's not wrong. anyway
If the discussion is that Bruno wasn't as worthy of a Grammy as the black artists nominated then it's not really beside the point. Anyway the overall attack on Bruno is beyond counter intuitive when you're attacking a Latino artist who is backed by a diverse team of POC that he props up and gives ample credit to. And f we're gonna act like Latin America hasn't had ample influence on R&B music and call Bruno a cultural appropriator then we've got some problems
